Become A Certified Stress ExpertIn 10 Minutes Or Less.Guaranteed!

Hello, my name is Doc Orman, M.D., and Id like to turn you into a realstress expert within the next ten minutes.

You probably think this isnt possible, but it is. In fact, if you read throughthis entire short e-bookit will definitely happen for you!

You see, theres only one thing you need to know in order to legitimatelycall yourself a stress expert. And when you know this one thing it will put

you on an entirely new path for successfully dealing with stress in your life.

    My Background

For the past 30 years, in addition to being a board-certified InternalMedicine physician, Ive been teaching people how to eliminate stress fromtheir liveswithout having to manage it.

Along the way, Ive discovered that much of what weve been taught aboutstress isnt really true.As a result, most well-educated people today dontcorrectly understand what stress really is, what causes it to occur in theirlives, or what the best strategy is for dealing with it.

I have personally helped many people improve their understanding aboutstress (and how to eliminate it) by conducting seminars and workshops forthousands of individuals, including:

    Doctors

    Lawyers

    Nurses Medical students

    Business executives

    College students

    Athletic coaches

    And even the FBI.

Ive also written a highly-regarded book, The 14 Day Stress Cure, whichreceived a non-fiction book-of-the-year award from the National Associationof Independent Publishers in 1992.

In addition, I run a small non-profit organization, called The HealthResource Network, Inc., which has been the official sponsor of NationalStress Awareness Month, every April in the United States, for the pasttwenty-one years.

And you know what.all of these things would not have happened withoutthe one key insight that Im going to share with you in this e-book.

Prior to understanding this one key insight, I had tons and tons of stress inmy life. I was angry, frustrated, and miserable much of the time. I was

anxious, tense, irritable and intermittently felt depressed.

Yes, I was still able to function pretty well as a physician, but I frequentlygot angry with my patients, and Im sorry to say that my other relationshipswerent much better.

But as a direct result of this one key insight that you re going to learn aboutherealong with other discoveries that followed from itI was eventuallyable to turn all of this stress and tension around.

At this point in my life, I rarely get angry, frustrated, or irritated anymore. Ialso almost never feel anxious or depressed. And even when I do, I knowhow to make these negative feelings quickly disappear, whenever I want, without having to use drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, food, relaxationprocedures or any other type of stress management techniques.

In short, I finally figured out what was keeping me (and probably you) fromdealing with stress successfully.

And it all boils down to the one key insight I am going to share with youshortly.

    Myths About Stress

Before I can explain this key insight, however, you have to first understandthat we have many myths and misconceptions about stress that have been

implanted in our minds, but which are not really true.

Heresjust oneexample, excerpted from a book called The Stress Myth, byRichard Ecker:

We like to believe that stress is inevitablethatlife is so much more complex these days,

that were being dragged around by a runawayworld which offers us less and less that we can

    depend on.

But this belief is nothing but a myth, a myth that isat the core ofthe stress problem. This

myth.has done more to perpetuate unwantedstress in our society than any other single factor.

Ironically, the main proponents of this myth arethe very ones who claim to be teaching people

    how to deal with stress.

    You Are Not The Problem

You may not believe this, but the primary reason why stress keepshappening, over and over again in your life, is not because you are unable

    to get rid of it.

Its because you and I live in a world where stress is widelymisunderstood.

For instance, most stress experts take it for granted that stress issomething that actually exists, and that it is something people like you andme commonly suffer from.

They then spend a great deal of time and energy warning you of all the

terrible health consequences that can happen to you from high levels ofstress. Then, they offer you detailed advice about how to manage yourstress and protect yourself from harm.

Throughout medical school and my three years of residency training, I toowas taught to believe this popular mentality about stress. And in the earlyyears of my Internal Medicine practice, I tried teaching these helpful tipsto my patients.

Unfortunately, thinking about stress in this popular traditional way neverhelped me deal with my own emotions, nor did it help me to deal with othertypes of stress in my life. It also didnt enable me to be helpful at relievingstress in my patients.

Eventually, I discovered there are much better ways to think about stress, including better ways to understand:

    What stress really is

What causes it to occur in our lives

What our best options are for dealing with it

Lets begin by taking a critical look at what stress really is and what it isnot.

    The Truth About Stress

When I conduct workshops about stress, I begin by asking audiencemembers to share their thoughts about what they believe stress really is.

This always produces a lively discussion, and a wide range of differentdefinitions and opinions are usually offerred. Some people will say thatstress is being mentally or physically overwhelmed by too many externalpressures or demands. Some believe it is not being able to sleep well atnight or concentrate as well as they normally might do during the day.

Others will say stress is when they are anxious, angry, frustrated ordepressed. Still others will point to symptoms in their bodies, such as tightmuscles, headaches, indigestion, sweating, or rapid heart beats.

Invariably, someone will also throw in a scientific-type definition like stressis the inappropriate activation of the bodys ancient flight or fight response, which results in excessive stress hormones being released into thebloodstream.

You probably have your own personal definition for stress. As you can seefrom the responses above, there are many popular definitions, all of whichdo have some merit. But none of them gets to the heart of what stress

really is. None of them captures its true nature and essence.

The Truth Is Not What Youve Been Told

The real truth about stress is different from what youve been told. When I tell you this truth, youll probably think its no big deal. Even worse, you might jump to an initial conclusion that its actually a bit crazy. But Ican assure you that not only is it 100% true, but it also has profoundimplications.

After all, it turned my whole relationship to stress around and enabled meto finally gain mastery over my stress, after many years of repeatedfailures.

Are you finally ready for the secret? The real truth about stress is this.

    The Body's Stress Response

Some people, when they first come face-to-face with this undeniable truthabout stress, will argue that the true (i.e. real) definition of stress must be

based upon research-proven physical processes that go on inside ourbodies.

As a physician, I would definitely agree that there are indeed many well-documented physiological changes that do occur within our bodies inresponse to "stress.

This is referred to as the bodys stress response or the flight or fightresponse, and it is clearly associated with increased amounts ofstresshormones in the bloodstream.

However, its just as big a mistake to define stress in purely physiologicalterms as it is to define it in any other limited way. You see, physiologicalchanges in our bodies are only part of the story with stress. They are notthe whole story and shouldnt be thought of in this way.

For instance, it is possible to be stressed and not have strong or evenmeasurable physiologic changes in your body. Also, the degree ofphysiologic reactions that occur in different people varies widely to the

    same potentially stressful situations.

If Stress Doesn't Exist, What Do We Suffer From?

Please be assured I am not trying to convince you that any stress youexperience isnt real or doesnt exist for you or for other human beings.

I am suggesting, however, that whenever you think you are suffering fromstress, you are really suffering from something else.

That something else can take many forms.

For example, when we say we are suffering from stress, we may mean:

We are suffering from anxiety. We are feeling frustrated or angry. We are excessively tired. We have tense muscles in our body. We just lost our job or our home. We just lost someone dear to us. Or many, many other things.

Stress Is A Word That Stands For

You see, the real truth about stress is that it is a word we use to stand formany different types ofproblems in our lives.

We use the word stress to stand for :

Emotional problems Physical symptoms and ailments Financial or work problems Interpersonal problems

Self-esteem problems And hundreds of other problems

KEYPRINCIPLE:Stress is a wordthat stands for

    problems in ourlives.

How You Benefit From Knowing Stress is Just aWord?

You might think that knowing stress is just a word, or substituting the word

problems instead ofstress, is merely a trivial semantic point.

I suggest, however, it can make a HUGE difference in your ability to copewith stress successfully. Remember, it was the one key insight thateventually enabled me to end most of my stressful problems in my own life, and to go on to become a skillful author, speaker, and stress coach whohas helped many other people.

Here are just some of the benefits of remembering stress is just a word:

    Benefits

    1. Youll stop making the mistake of thinking STRESS is your problem.

    2. Youll start focusing instead on the real problems in your life; this willforce you to define your problems more specifically.

    3. Instead of asking How can I deal with my stress? youll begin to ask

    more focused, problem-specific questions.

    4. Your answers to these problem-specific questions will be much moreuseful than asking yourself how can I deal with my stress?

    Problem-Focused Questions

Look at the difference between asking yourself How can I deal with mystress? and asking yourself the following types ofproblem-focused

    questions:

    1. I seem to be getting angry all the time. I wonder how I can learn tobetter understand and deal with my anger?

    2. I seem to be worrying quite a lot. I wonder how I can learn to dealwith worry?

    3. I seem to be having recurring financial problems. I wonder whatswrong with the way Im thinking about or dealing with money?

    4. I seem to be having little success in my interpersonal relationships. Iwonder whats going on? And how can I improve my ability in thisvery challenging area of life?

    5. Im feeling anxious all the time, my heart keeps racing, I feel sweatyand tense much of the time. How can I better understand and dealwith each of these emotional and physical problems?

The benefit of asking these types of questions is they are much morefocused on the real problems you might be struggling with.

Asking How can I deal with my stress? on the other hand, immediatelyputs you at a big disadvantage.

Other Consequences Of Forgetting Stress is Just aWord

There are several other ways we pay a price for forgetting stress is just a

    word.

In the individual stress counseling work I used to do as a part of mymedical practice, people would often come to me with complaints such as:

Im having trouble coping with my stress Ive got a lot of stress in my life right now Is there anything you can do to help me get rid of my stress?

I knew these people were struggling with many difficult (and specific)problems in their lives.

But the specific nature of their problems often remained blurred andvaguely defined to them, and to me, as long as they were thinking in suchnon-specific terms.

I also occasionally saw individuals (although mostly they dont come forhelp) who made the opposite, but equally costly, mistakeadopting toonarrow or too limited a definition of what the word stress means to them.

This narrow definition causes them to mistakenly conclude that they havelittle or no stress in their lives that could adversely affect their bodies orotherwise damage their health.

If you ask these people, however, Do you have any problems in your life?many of them will quickly acknowledge that they do. They just have someother definition of stress (like being so overwhelmed you cant function atall) that makes them think the problems they are having dont equate to

stress, and therefore these problems, if left unresolved, cant make themsick. Well, they certainly can.

Theres No Such Thing as Good or Healthy Stress

Another price we pay for failing to appreciate stress is just a word is to putup with unnecessary problems in our lives, because some stress expert

somewhere may have convinced us that some degree of stress is goodor healthy for us.

Many stress experts promote the false idea that there are two types ofstress: "good stress" and bad stress.

For example, you could say that happy or joyous moments, like going to anexciting sporting event, are examples of good stress. Yet in all the years Ipracticed internal medicine, I never had a patient walk into my office andsay Doc, I got real excited at the footbal l game on Sunday. Is there

anything you can do to help me with this?

The Problem With The Myth Of "Good Stress

The problem with believing in the myth of good or healthy stress is that youcan be conned into thinking:

some anxiety must therefore be good for me some anger or frustration might be good for my health

some stress is necessary for me to be maximally productive in my job stress is natural and expected for all human beings

None of these mistaken notions about stress are really true!

The medical, psychological, and business literature actually supports theopposite conclusionthat the less stress (i.e. problems) you have, thehealthier, happier, and more productive you will to be.

    Mission Accomplished

The final, and perhaps most important, benefit of knowing stress is just aword is that this will set you apart from the large mass of humanity who are

hopelessly struggling to find solutions to a mythical monster they believeis stress.

If you do nothing more, as a result of reading this e-book, than commit tosubstituting the word problems whenever you hear the word stressyour life could be changed in many positive ways.

    Congratulations

In fact, you now know the only important thing there is to know aboutstress.that it doesnt really exist, except in human language, and thustheres no point in spending any time at all trying to deal with it.

When you are totally clear about this one key fact.you will immediatelyrealize that no human being can know any more about stress than you doright now.

Congratulations! You are now a bona fide stress expert. And, dependingupon your reading speed, it probably took you less than 10 minutes tobecome one.

    Big DealOr Not?

So now what? Whats the big deal about calling yourself a stress expert, just because you now know stress is just a word?

Well, it is a big deal. And I wouldnt have wasted your time, or mine, inviting you into this conversationunless it would help you.

And it really can help you if you begin to think about stress in this way.

As Ive already pointed out, if you continue to go down the path ofincorrectly thinking that your problem is stresswhen its actuallysomething elseyoure going to be at a big disadvantage.

Its much better to identify your problems specifically, and then begin to askyourself how you are going to deal with each one of them more effectively.

In fact, this way of dealing with stress is so much more powerful thanstress management, that I call it The Ultimate Method For Dealing WithStress.

    The Ultimate Method

In a nutshell, the Ultimate Method For Dealing With Stress can besummarized in three basic steps:

    1. Stop trying to deal with stress per se, and identify the specificproblem or problems you are having;

    2. Determine the main causes of each specific problem you are having;

    3. Deal with those causes effectively until your stress (i.e., problem)

gets better or completely goes away.

Once I realized stress was just a word, I gave up trying to manage it or dealwith it per se, and I started forcing myself to identify the specific problem orproblems I was having. I also became more focused on learning how tobetter identify each individual problems underlying causes.

Solving all your stressful problems in life, unfortunately, is not quite aseasy. I wish it were, but you could literally spend a lifetime pursuing thisever-changing goal.

One of the saddest things Ive seen, from 30 years of working in this area,is how badly people underestimate their ability to successfully deal withmost of their painful or recurring problems in their lives.

Its as though theyve been brainwashed into thinking that stress in aninevitable, unavoidable anchor in their life that they will just have to carryaround and manage until they die.

I know this feeling well, because I was there myself for most of my teenageand early adult years. But fortunately, I was eventually able to escape from

    this disempowering mindset.

You, too, can have such good fortune as well.

I believe theres a big difference between stress management, as it ispromoted today, and true stress mastery. To me, stress management ismostly about managing just the symptoms of your problems. Stressmastery, on the other hand, is knowing how to make your problemsimprove or disappear by better understanding and then dealing with theirunderlying causes.

You can definitely learn how to develop this type of stress mastery in yourlife. I know this is true because Ive done it myself, and because I alsotaught others how to do it as well. But it doesnt happen in just a fewminutes. It takes a long-term commitment to learning and improving, alongwith the courage to question much of what youve already been told.

    One Last Thing.

At the beginning of this e-book, I promised to make you a certified stressexpert in10 minutes or less. So, you might be thinking OK, he made me astress expertsort ofbut Im certainly not certified by anyone.

Well, just to show you that I do deliver on my promises, I figured out a wayto make you a true certified stress expert.
