    Indonesia intends to become an observer Russia intends to become an observer

    Myanmar has expressed an interest in joiningas a full member

    Iran asked to join the SAARC as an observer.

    The 14th SAARC summit took place in New

    Delhi (India) during the 2nd and 4th of April,

    2007. Afghanistan inducted as 8th member Focus

    on peace, prosperity The year 2007 wasdeclared as the year of Green South Asia.

    Member countries welcomed the ratificationof SAFTA.

    The 15th SAARC summit took place in

    Colombo (Sri Lanka) during the 1st and 3rd of

    August, 2008. Summit concluded has taken far-reaching

    decisions on key issues affecting the regionsuch as terrorism, food and fuel security and

    trade, with discussions that had a strongfocus, on economic and commercial

    cooperation.

    The 16th summit of SAARC was held in

    Thimpu, Bhutan between 28-29 April 2010

    SAARC leaders signed a SAARC Conventionon Cooperation on Environment to tackle the

    problem of climate change.

    The SAARC nations also pledged to plant 10

    million trees.

    Maldives' capital Male next year.

    And main agenda will be Climate Risks in the

    Region.

    The Agreement on the South Asian Free Trade Area isan agreement reached at the 12th SAARC summit atIslamabad.

    The seven foreign ministers of the region signed aframework agreement on SAFTA with zero customsduty on the trade of practically all products in the

    region by end 2016.

    The least developed nations in South Asia consistingof Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Maldives have anadditional three years to reduce tariffs to zero.
