1 Connection of Iub Interface

Knowledge Points

Alarm examination, signaling observation, channel observation, and service test

1.1 Alarm Examination

Under the online login mode, click the FMS shortcut button on the toolbar of OMS, asshown in Fig 1-1, to open the alarm management interface of the base station.

Fig. 1-1 Start Alarm Query

The alarm management interface is shown in Fig 1-2.

Fig. 1-2.Alarm Status Tracing Interface

The examination of alarms should conform to the following order: firstly check CC

 board, including alarms related to transmission and then alarms related to clock;

secondly, check FS board and then analyze the faults of other boards one by one after

all the boards start up successfully; finally check the RTR board on RRU.

1.2 Connection Data Configuration and Debugging of RNC Side

1.2.1 NBAP Signaling Observation

Start DMS. In the maintenance navigation tree interface, choose [assistant functions

→ NBAP signaling observing ]. The [NBAP signaling observing] interface appears on

the right side of the screen. Right-click in the blank area of this interface and select “

start ”, as shown in Fig.1-3. In the signaling, we can clearly find the setup flow of the

cell.

Cell establishment can get through calls, the process of Radio Link establishment is

seen by the NBAP signaling observe. Choose [ assistant functions →NBAP signaling

observing ], pop out the window of “ NBAP signaling observing ”, select the “

start ” button of the toolbar, as shown in Fig. 1-4:

Fig.1-4 NBAP Signaling Observing

After starting NBAP signaling observing, power on the handset. If you observe “ Radio

Link establish request ”,“ Radio Link establish response ” and “ Radio Link recover ”

as shown in Fig. 1-5, it shows that UE has already communicated with RNC

successfully, and NodeB has established successfully.

1.2.2 SCTP Signaling Observation

In the maintenance navigation tree interface, choose [ assistant functions→SCTP

signaling observing ]. Right-click in the blank area of the interface, select “ start ”,

as shown in Fig. 1-6:

Fig.1-6 Start SCTP Signaling Observing

Select the link to be observed, and click “Yes ”. The link is normal if it is observed that

Rx receives a “HEARTBEAT”, and Tx transmits a “HEARTBEATACK ”. And then the

link transmits an acknowledge message “SACK ”every time when it receives a data

message“DATA”, as shown in Fig. 1-7.

1.2.3 Public Physical Channels Observation

In the maintenance navigation tree interface, choose [assistant functions→ public

physical channels observing]. The “public physical channels observing” interface

appears on the right side of the screen, as shown in Fig. 1-8.

Fig.1-8 Public Physical Channels Observing

Tips:

Here we have 1 cell, the cell ID is 1601. In the field, we can proceed the observing

according to the cell’s actual situation. After the cell establishes normally, we can see 9

public physical channels of 8 kinds:

PSCH:SSCH:PCPICH:PCCPCH:2*SCCPCH:PICH:PRACH:AICH.

1.2.4 Public Transmission Channels Observing

In the maintenance navigation tree interface, choose [assistant functions→ public

transmission channels observing]. The “public transmission channels observing”

interface appears on the right side of the screen, as shown in Fig. 1-9.

Tips:

Here we have 1 cell, the cell ID is 1601. In the field, we can proceed the observing

according to the cell’s actual situation. After the cell establishes normally, we can see 5

public transmission channels of 4 kinds: BCH:2*FACH:RACH:PCH.

1.3 Basic Service Testing

1.3.1 Test of Services in CS Domain

1.3.1.1 Test Preparations

1: The commissioning of equipment completes successfully.

2: Prepare two handsets A and B, related accessories, and two SIM cards.

3: Handsets such as NOKIA7600: NOKIA6630: NOKIA6680 can dial 4606 to

check the locked frequency of WCDMA after entering into the engineering

mode. After pressing to execute, you should set the downlink frequency point

and the scramble, the former 5 bits are the frequency point, and the latter 5 bits

are the scramble. If there are no enough bits, fill it with zeros at the left side.

Moreover, dial *#06# to check the IMEI number, dial *#0000# to see the

software information of the NOKIA handset, dial *99***1# when using the

handset as a modem.

4: If you are using ZTE’s handsets, dial *99# when using the handsets as modems,

dial *983*837# to see the version information of the handsets. Dial

*983*3641# to enter engineer mode, close the cover of the handset and open it

again, then input *983*3640# to cancel the engineer mode. Frequency lock

method: open QXDM, hold the “Connect”state, and then select “ NV

browser ”in the “view”frame ( not menu ), modify NV item 3524 and 3525,

force UE search for networks or select cells among the frequencies appointed

 by the users:

: 1 : Set the value of NV 3524 item to the frequency value that is appointed

( downlink frequency point, such as 10737,10662). After that, press " write

", and then "read" again to see whether it has been modified or not.

:2: Set the value of NV 3524 item to 1, this is a BOOL value. It determines

whether or not to enable UE to search for networks according to

frequencies appointed by item 3524.

1.3.1.2 Test Steps

1. Testing handset A calls testing handset B.

2. Press to talk after testing handset B rings.

3. Hang up the phone after holding the call for one minute.

4. If the calling is successful, the quality of voice is clear, being able to hang up

the phone normally, it shows that this testing is successful.

5. Repeat the upper testing steps for 5 times.

1.3.1.3 Acceptance Conditions

Speech service is normal.

1.3.2 Test of Services in PS Domain:FTP Download

PS domain services include several different data rate, here we only need to test one

relatively high data rate service.

1.3.2.1 Test Preparations

1. The commissioning of equipment completes successfully.

-8-

Page 11: 10 Iub Debugging

2. Prepare one testing mobile subscriber which supports packet switch domain

services, the related accessories ( such as data cable ), a SIM card.

3. Prepare one testing computer for the connection with the testing mobile

subscriber.

1.3.2.2 Test Steps

1. The testing mobile subscriber connects with the testing computer with data

cable, the testing mobile subscriber dials to initiate the PS services.

2. The testing mobile subscriber links up to FTP server, after connecting

successfully, it download files (suggesting the size of files is not less than 10M)

from FTP server by using the network download tools.

3. Observe the download rate, after the files are downloaded completely, hang up

this call normally.

4. Repeat the upper testing steps for 5 times.

1.3.2.3 Acceptance Conditions

1. Download the files from the FTP server successfully.

2. The downloaded files are completed.

3. After the downloading, the average download rate shown in the download tool

is not lower than the rate which we expect.

1.3.3 Test of Other Cells

If an SDR base station establishes several cells, and we need to test the commissioning

of other cells is normal or not, we can use the methods which we discussed above. We

only need to block the first cell on the LMT manually to let the mobile subscriber

occupy the signals of other cells that need testing.
