Roundtrip San Francisco Onboard Princess Cruises “Golden Princess®”
August 10 – August 20, 2015
Class Registration
JILL SCHUMACHER All skill levels welcome Jill will be teaching machine quilting and will be designing wall hangings specifically for our cruise to Alaska. Each project will have a different theme included in the designs and will also incorporate the art of trapunto. Jill will have several different designs for you to choose. If you are a beginner, you might want to work on a smaller project this first time. If you are familiar with machine quilting you may want to challenge yourself with a larger pattern. An example of all of the projects to choose from will be mailed to you after you sign up for class.

Session 1: You have a two day class with one teacher – 6 hours each day ______ Julie Curry Forget Me Nots ______ Jill Schumacher Free Motion Machine Quilting & Trapunto ______ Wendy Mathson Calming the Storm – Piecing “Storm at Sea” ______ Maggie Ball Bargello Quilts with a Twist
Session 2: You have a two day class with one teacher – 6 hours each day ______ Julie Curry Geese Go Round ______ Jill Schumacher Free Motion Machine Quilting & Trapunto ______ Wendy Mathson After the Storm – Pieced Borders for Any Quilt ______ Maggie Ball Kaleidoscope Puzzle
JULIE CURRY All skill levels welcome Session 1: Forget Me Nots - With this fat quarter friendly project, you will stitch up an unforgettable bouquet in a jiffy!
Session 2: Geese Go Round - In this class, Julie will teach you the “no waste method” for making Flying Geese using 5” squares. She will provide you with a handy chart for making other sizes, and share ideas for additional projects using Flying Geese. This project is great for using “charm packs” and/or for using your scraps. Whether you choose to go totally scrappy or prefer a more coordinated look, you are sure to take flight with this fabulous method!!
MAGGIE BALL All skill levels welcome Session 1: Bargello Quilts with a Twist - The Bargello 16-piece block, as featured in my book Bargello Quilts with a Twist, provides enormous potential for creating original designs. If you've felt intimidated by the Bargello technique of sewing numerous strips together, never fear. To make this easily constructed strip-pieced block, you only need to sew four strips at a time. You will be amazed and delighted by the many possibilities for designing your own unique quilts and students are encouraged to explore a variety of options. All skill levels.
Session 2: Kaleidoscope Puzzle - A new template-free method for cutting and piecing Kaleidoscope blocks. It is easy and fast and does not require triangular rulers. Cut enough kite and wedge shaped pieces from 10” squares to yield sixteen or more 8” blocks and play with the layout. The design possibilities are numerous and are fun to explore. You may try either a squarely set or an on-point layout. There is a $5.00 pattern fee payable at class time.
WENDY MATHSON All skill levels welcome Session 1: Calming the Storm - Piecing “Storm at Sea” - Is this classic pattern on your “to do” list? Now you can make it totally template-free with my no-fail piecing method suitable for any skill level. I have taught this class to hundreds of students who now know how to “calm the storm” with my unique trim-after-you-sew tools that I call “Quilter’s TRIMplates”. Everyone will have the chance to use these tools in class. I will also show you other piecing methods you can use to enlarge your class sample when you get home, using either paper foundation piecing or by making your own TRIMplates.
Session 2: After the Storm – Pieced Borders For Any Quilt - Start with a panel or an unfinished quilt that needs a “wow” border. Then let me show you how to select and piece a border using some units based on the “Storm at Sea”. Students will use my unique “Quilter’s TRIMplate tools in class. This is a great way to learn a new technique without having to commit to a large project. Look for panels or interesting fabric as you shop and make a wonderful memento of your Alaskan cruise! Check out my Pinterest page for more border design ideas.
