Citation preview
Rule 1:Draw dimension lines using thin continuous lines.Don't place dimension lines over centre lines or in line with a visible or hidden outline.
Rule 2:Record the dimension as a measurement in millimetres.Rule 3:Wherever possible, place dimensions outside the views.Never write the dimensions over the object unless there is no other option.
Rule 4:Dimension lines should generally be 10-12mm away from the views or another dimension line.
Rule 5:The shortest dimensions should be closest to the object.
Rule 6:Put the dimension as near as possible to the feature it is describing.
Rule 7:Dimension lines have arrowheads at each end to indicate start and end points.
Rule 8:
Dimensions should be placed at the centre of the dimension line, but never through the middle of a dimension line.
Rule 9:Dimensions can be written:
unidirectionally (horizontally) so that they are parallel to the bottom of the page
aligned so that they are parallel to the dimension line.
Rule 10:
Never measure off a drawing - it is too inaccurate as some drawings are not to scale.
Rule 11:A correctly dimensioned drawing should be pleasing to the eye.
