Peace & Global Witness Special Offering“Now may the Lord of peace. . .give you peace at a! times in a! ways.”
(2 Thessalonians 3:16)This is the 2019 theme for the Peace & Global Witness Special Offering.Since 1940, World Communion Sunday is an ecumenical celebration of our oneness in the Spirit and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, bringing churches together in Christian unity.25% of the Offering stays with our congregation, and 25% will go to our mid-council joining with other congregations to support peacemaking in our region; 50% of this Offering supports the work for peace and reconciliation being done by Presbyterians across the globe.
IF WE ALL DO A LITTLE, IT ADDS UP TO A LOT!
Presbyterian Women News
October is busy this year! Our PW circle meetings are October 8th, Day Circle at 10 am and Night Circle at 7 pm. Please come join us for our second Bible study titled “Words of Love: Don’t Trivialize My Name” from the study guide “Love Carved in Stone: A Fresh Look at the Ten Commandments”.
During the The Fall Craft Bazaar on October 12,10-4 pm, Melba Slaven will have a table for purchasing a sponsorship wreath for Wreaths Across America. The sponsored wreath is $15.00 cash or check. Each December these wreaths are laid on veterans gravesites at Arlington National Cemetery and at more than 1600 additional locations across America. Please support this vital PW project.
Each Sunday in November, PW will be collecting COATS for the Veterans Christmas Party held on December 3rd. Be sure to bring both men’s and women’s coats, sweaters, and jackets plainly marked with size and gender. The veterans do enjoy getting a warm coat so please also support us in this endeavor.

Thank you…
With Heartfelt Thanks
As I write this, I am once again reading the lovely !amed certificate which names me as an Honorary Life Member of the wide family of Presbyterian Women in the PCUSA. The seal on the certificate mirrors the design of the beautiful pin that the women of First Presbyterian Pasadena presented to me, and the text explains the multi-layered symbolism of that pin. I am deeply honored to have received these gi#s. And I also treasure the butterflies that Betty Pendleton added to a lovely plant. What better way to describe our ca$ing to grow in faith and love with Jesus Christ, to build inclusive community, to work for peace, and to honor God’s creation as we walk in the !eedom of forgiveness.
With thanks and blessings,Chére Wharry

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church (USA). PDA comes in at the request of a Presbytery to provide resources not provided by other agencies and to coordinate the volunteer relief effort. Their focus is on long term recovery of disaster impacted communities. PDA connects and partners with existing national and international relief organizations. The devastating spring storms and fires in the U.S., as well as humanitarian disasters around the world caused by political upheaval, have stretched resources thin. If you can give, please go to their website https://pda.pcusa.org/ for instructions on how to donate online or send a check by mail to Presbyterian Church (USA) P.O. Box 643700, Pittsburg, PA 15264-3700.

The next Kairos event is October 10. Cookies and letters are due by October 9. Cookie bags, place mats, and money have no expiration date and are always accepted! You are a blessing to many men that were totally lost and now they have Jesus Christ to ponder. This is a wonderful thing to do for your neighbor. C.L., Mark Corder

“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird,
I would fly about the earth seeking the
successive autumns.” George Eliot
Young at Heart A few brave (foolhardy) folks found their way to Young at Heart, FPC on third Thursday, September 19, 2019. Though it was raining and flooding all around, Preston was wet, but street was clear. So four folks (plus me) let their love for Chickenfoot overcome their fear of the unknown (weather).
Jean Johnston was the first one to surprise me, and then came Heather and Jamie Jamison and their friend Katrina! So, obviously, there was nothing to do, but say a prayer and play Chicken-foot!
Believe it or not, we also had an ample assortment of lunch items.
There were three kinds of sandwiches, chips, Watergate Salad, Apple Fritters, and Brownies. Maria had even made us tea and coffee.
It was a fun way to spend a rainy day.
We will meet again next month (hopefully without all the rain) on third Thursday, October 17, at 10 am. Bring your favorite dish or bring nothing at all: we always have plenty of food.
Joan

GROWING IN GRACE & GRATITUDE SUNDAY MORNINGS THIS FALL AT FIRST!
All children, youth and adults are invited to be part of a small group each Sunday morning from 9-10. The Discipleship Committee is grateful for the men and women who will serve as our 2019-20 team of Sunday School teachers. We are also grateful for the high percentage of learners in this community of faith. Our children (up to 5th graders) will be using the PCUSA curriculum, “Growing in Grace & Gratitude”. Our youth (6th-12th graders) will be asking more hard questions about God and Faith using the “Can I Ask That 2” curriculum. Additional class information may be found in related arti-cles. May God bless us as together we grow in grace and gratitude Sunday mornings at FPC.

READING BIBLICAL LITERATURE Pat Abrams, Bride’s Room at 9:00 am
Our class is currently studying the Gospel of Luke with “Luke for Everyone” by N. T. Wright. To study the Bible from a literary perspective is definitely different, and adds greatly to understanding and applying God’s Word to our everyday lives. Come join us as we ‘Step Out in Faith” as Jesus would lead.
