In this topic students will learn how to rehearse and create a performance based on their interpretation of a scripted duologue. They will develop their character, performance and interpretive skills. ‘Devising’. Students will develop a range of devising techniques to explore character and theme. The aim is to identify ways to develop theatre through the medium of devised Drama. Spring Term: ‘Practitioner Exploration’. Students will develop the skills associated with a key theatrical practitioner and apply those skills in the context of an existing script linked to that practitioner. Summer Term: ‘Improvisation’. During this topic students will work individually, in groups then as a whole group to devise a performance rooted in the skills developed of improvisational theatre. Student will develop their improvisational skills based on the rules of improve then apply this approach to a method used by Mike Leigh in his film work. This will involve a performance in July.

Students will focus on material taster projects: in wood; Textiles and metals. They will work on a developing 3D drawing, rendering and CAD skills. They will complete CAM tasks on the CAM router. They will also look at using 3D drawing technology in Auto Desk/ Solid Works so that they can 3D print solutions. Underlying Maths and Science knowledge to be explicit in area calculations and costing for the treasure box and angle calculations needed in the Kite project

No formal assessment. Summative work will be marked and students will undergo knowledge based tests to ensure learning.

YEARS 10 (outline of course) 2020-21

Students will focus on manufacturing a mechanical toy from different types of wood: Maths and Science a key component in gear ratios; mechanisms and types of motion. Electrical component knowledge to come in with the use of a generator in the toy. Weekly theory focus in 20 minute starter tasks or homework’s. Ensure design process is followed in detail during the year to give skills and feedback needed for Year 11: 2X short sharp projects linked to Electronics and Plastics to focus on material properties and joining techniques.

Grading of design folio with feedback is vital for them to follow in Year 11.
