Welcome to the 32nd edition of Advanced Ophthalmologic Practice! At AOP, we always strive to provide the most recent,
most relevant educational content that will help you update and upgrade your practice. This ambition, along with the many
contributions from our speakers, exhibitors, delegates and scientific partners, enabled us to become one of the most anticipated
international conferences today.
The scientific program is carefully constructed upon 12 key themes including retina, neuro-ophthamology, glaucoma,
cataract, uveitis, pediatric ophthalmology, cornea as well as professional business.
This year boasts a large variety of AOP Labs guaranteed to boost your anatomical and practical knowledge. Not yet registered? Find
all information on page 58. Also, the favorite classics, the MCQ, the Video Sessions and the Surgery Battles, offer an extensive
look for delegates willing to widen their vision and breadth as experts.
The best and the brightest are gathering for the congress, and it is important for us to ensure that the educational content meets the highest of standards. Our partnerships with numerous academic
societies of specialists ensure that the sessions present the latest and most accurate scientific information.
The ophthalmology field is not just limited to diagnosis or
treatments, and has witnessed many technological innovations and advances in the last few years. Meet the big players and stay up-to-date through the Artifical Intelligence sessions, and Product
Analysis sessions on OCT and anterior segment.
AOP also welcomes the young generation of ophthalmologists and orthoptists with a YO Lounge area and specially crafted scientific
sessions in collaboration with the OBAO (Belgium).
We hope you will enjoy all that is in store for you this year!

After the great success of last year, the Young Ophthalmologists sessions return and have been specially designed to cover the topics most sought-after by our peers. We propose a whole array of dedicated sessions and formats:
• YO Sessions - dedicated hours in the very heart of the plenary sessionsThis 3-hour series of sessions proposed among the 120 sessions of the conference is held on Saturday. The module begins with presentations by world-renowned speakers sharing their practical knowledge on ophthalmology's hot topics for residents such as: vitrectomy for beginners, nystagmus and ophthalmo-oncology. These sessions represent a noteworthy opportunity for young practitioners. Time & details on pages 8 to 15.
Not only do the sessions propose a high-level educational content, they also stimulate an intergenerational and international exchange of information. It’s your chance to form essential connections with peers and showcase your growing expertise to a world-wide audience!
• YO Lounge - dedicated area within the exhibition hall
• AOP Labs - 6 genuine training facilities within the exhibition hall
The congress gathers each year hundreds of residents in ophthalmology, coming from
15 different countries.
Top 3 countries in 2018:France .1
Belgium .2Romania .3
In 2020, 60% of contributing speakers are residents in
ophthalmology. Thank you for your trust and for presenting at AOP 2020.
Check out the contributing speakers page 6 and support
your peers!
« As president of the OBAO (Organisation Belge des Assistants
en Ophtalmologie) I am very excited about our first international collaboration with AOP. Since half
of the Belgian population speaks French, a collaboration had to
happen one day and I would like to thank all people involved in making
this a success. The sessions for young ophthalmologists seems really
comprehensive and I am sure that our two invited speakers will teach you important lessons that you can
use during your future career. »

The AOP Labs 2020 bring you the most updated ophthalmic surgical devices, medical imaging and procedures through a pedagogical learning framework designed to improve and broaden your skills. They focus on 6 techniques, with highly skilled trainers leading a small-group session of 2 to 6 participants in customized laboratories equipped with the latest, cutting-edge devices. The Labs are repeated throughout the day and run on both Friday and Saturday, in parallel with the scientific sessions.
Choose among these hot topics: cataract (phacoemulsification) - cornea (dsaek) - glaucoma (endocyclophotocoagulation of ciliary bodies) - glaucoma (trabeculectomy techniques) - imaging (echography) - retina (endoscopic vitrectomy). Build your own program "à la carte" as soon you get in, but please be sure to select your timeslot carefully to avoid any overlaps.
These practical workshops are an unprecedented initiative, unique in the sense that they provide real hands-on training without any commercial bias, and we are proud to stand out in this light! Not all congresses can promise or deliver brand-free lab sessions. At AOP, labs are part of the scientific program, and as such remain strictly non-sponsored; the scientific content of the labs is therefore entirely under the responsibility of the AOP Scientific Board, who strives to meet the needs of practitioners by providing objective medical training.
It’s that simple.
. scientific directorsEmmanuel BUI QUOC, Sofiene KALLEL, Laura MOYAL-ROUCH
. SCIENTIFIC coordinatorsRaphael BARUGEL, Mickael KARCENTY
THE
How does AOP ensure delivery of this mission statement? By keeping the sessions financially independent from any company
influence. Not easy, very challenging, but we love that.
1. Companies are entitled to support educational activities with grants which, again, differ from sponsorships.
2. Physicians support us through the additional registration fees required to attend these labs.
