OUR STORYIn the winter of 2013 Diana Liptak and Ryan Soper were talking about their experiences with security companies, individuals and the overall lack of “what we actually need”.

First let me tell you about Diana and Ryan.

Diana Liptak owns a production company and her studios are in the downtown core of Calgary, Alberta. They are apt to a lot of vagrancy and homelessness. She and the owners of the building in which she leased, made a decision to utilize a security company to crack down on the issues they were having. As Diana stayed late nights quite often she figured doing this would bring her some peace about being there at late hours. On plenty of occasions she would leave to find vagrants still snooping in the garbage as well as attempting to enter the building. This left her feeling a little frightened and uneasy and she eventually decided to work from home.

Ryan Soper was a management consultant who had worked with a plethora of Security companies in the Alberta region ranging back to 2003 and onwards and he had seen quite a bit, from overnight security companies to companies run by incompetent “business people” all the way to the top run companies in the province. Ryan worked with these companies building processes and standard operating procedures. He also met with a lot of the clients that utilize security services and listened to their concerns and issues.

Armed with the consumer side and the producer’s side of the story this is how the story of 10-106 Security Incorporated came to be founded.

Diana Liptak and Ryan Soper started brainstorming… they started with the most used service in the Security industry, Mobile Patrol Services, and then took into consideration the clients concerns. With these all in mind they created….

VIDEO MOBILE PATROL

High Visibility VehiclesDo you require a presence that isn’t 24/7 and doesn’t break the bank? Then 10-106 Security’s video mobile patrol division is exactly what you need, with cars on the road at any given time and coverage throughout Alberta they can provide semi, random and even full time patrols to any of your sites. Their mobile patrol vehicles are highly visible and they equip them with a two-way radio, a cell phone, electronic dispatching system, an Ipad, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, emergency supplies and a well-trained fully uniformed protection officer.

And with all mobile patrols they go above and beyond with live recording of the patrol. You just make a request and the video is delivered to you within one business day.

(Monitored live by their 24/7 dispatch Centre)

Their Moblie Patrol Routine:• Physical check of all windows and doors are secure. • Video recorded complete patrol • Access and patrol any areas requested by the client. • Remove any vagrants or suspicious individuals. • Check all exterior lighting of parking lots and buildings and report any outages. • Type an electronic report of all activity while onsite.

Client Concerns

• Is the guard actually there and doing their job?• If the guard is there how do we know he is there for the allotted amount of time?• Are they doing a thorough job, just because he scans a detection device, is he actually

checking the needed areas?• Written reports: when we get them we can hardly read them sometimes for many reasons,

broken English, messy writing skills, rolled up or crinkled paper, reports left in gates and so on.

Page 6: 10-106 Calgary Security Firm Introduction Package

10-106.com 403-770-3036Video Mobile Patrol | Static Security | Video Surveillance | Monthly Video Monitoring

So armed with this information they began by creating processes around combatting these concerns. This is how they came up with the Video Recorded Mobile Patrol and rolled that together with their custom designed, Online Security Dispatching System (ODS). They also have fully integrated vehicles with electronic operating systems that send clients electronic reports instead of paper reports. That’s just to name a few, there were plenty more such as the quality of their guards and even the quality of the vehicles they drive and we could go on although you get the point.

How do all these things lead to a next generation security service from 10-106 Security? Let us answer that for you:

Is the guard actually doing their job?

The answer is yes and there is proof. Not only do they provide detailed reports all of their security professionals are equipped with a lapel camera that records all their movements of each and every patrol. This footage is available to clients upon request, up to 14 days.

Is the guard there for the allotted amount of time?

The answer once again is yes and the proof is two fold for this one. First of all there is the video footage that we explained in the last answer aside from that their ODS requires all guards to click an onsite and offsite button before they are allowed to start writing and finish writing a report. This system then starts a timer that monitors the amount of time their patrol took.

Page 7: 10-106 Calgary Security Firm Introduction Package

Is he doing a thorough job? Is he checking the needed areas?

This would be the same answer as one. They provide High Definition video and audio recordings of all reports. This footage is available to their clients upon request, up to 14 days after…

The written reports being messy or poorly written and/or scrunched up and so on:

All of their reports are electronically written and reviewed by the system for spelling and grammar then delivered to the clients inbox on a daily bases.

Clients Concerns

Now that the mobile patrol service had been designed and implemented Diana and Ryan set off to start building a Static Security division. Ryan Soper with all his experience already knew the biggest issue in that part of the business was:

• Guards sleeping on the job and he knew that there were a few other areas that needed some work and those were:

• Guards being able to relate properly and have a clear and constructive conversation with the clients of 10-106

• Guards being able to relate and properly have a clear and constructive conversation with the staff of 10-106 clients

• Properly trained guards• Turnover of employees (guards)• Computer skills and report writing skills• Having enough guards

Would you like to know how and what 10-106 has implemented to combat these known issues?

Let us now answer this for you: Guards being able to relate: Ten-106 is an equal opportunity employer what this means is they do not discriminate based on ethnicity or color. As well, every potential employee must meet all of the same criteria, do the testing and make it through their tiered interview process to be considered for a job. This assures their clients that, they are getting only the highest quality guards that will meet and exceed their expectations.

Properly trained guards? 10-106 has a rigid training process and they have defined and set training systems in place for each division of their company. As well as they expect all guards to have more than one form of certification from the Solicitor General or another authority (e.g. ASIS) to be considered for a job. They do not hire guards that only have their Alberta Basic Security Training (ABST).

Turnover of employees?

To start off they had to recognize that one of the biggest challenges in the security industry for many companies as well as our clients is turnover. To combat this they have put in place a multitude of options for their guards to utilize and tap into, and they are adding features all the time to incentivize their employees to work harder and be compensated for that. A few of those options are: • Higher than normal starting wages• Paid training • Paid-upgrading • Events for all staff And they know that they are the only company to offer their guards a way to make a commission for performance. They knew that keeping their people happy was as important as keeping their clients happy.

Computer and Report writing skills:

Other companies have their employees take computer related courses and 10-106 felt, “why should the security industry be any different” so 10-106 Security offers its guards and office staff the opportunity to take computer related courses that are approved for the betterment of report writing and other tasks within their line of duty. With this being done 10-106 can then guarantee that the reports their clients receive will be written fast, efficiently and effectively.

Company’s having enough guards?

10-106 Security knew that if they were to be able to compete in this market they needed to be able to react at a moments notice and this brought in the on call and after hours guard. 10-106 has guards on call 24/7 for the convenience of their clients. Do you have an open door that cannot be locked until the morning? Do you have a broken overhead door that needs to be manned for the evening? 10-106 is the company to call. With their proactive approach to the security industry they have the security professionals needed at a moments notice.

With their management team having on-the-ground experience as, ex-prison guards, police officers, Active Canadian military and retired RCMP to the ranks. With these two major parts of the security industry tackled Diana and Ryan then looked at the other ways in which the company could benefit their clients… With their large fleet and 24/7 dispatch: parking control for their client’s private property was the perfect answer. The two had not ventured into this type of business yet, after reviewing the laws and being sure that they could tackle this division with as much professionalism and sustainability that they had been able to do with the previous divisions they decided to move forward.

PARKING ENFORCEMENT TAGGING AND TOWING At 10-106 Security they pride themselves on knowing the laws and being one of the only companies in the business that has the ability and know how to enforce parking correctly and legally. With their step-by-step process they will not only impress your clients they will also create a presence to potential illegal parkers that is next to none. The goal is not to stop illegal parking it is to eliminate it on client sites for good.

Process: 10-106 Security Parking Control process:

• General audit of signage letting clients know what is needed for enforcement• General patrols issuing warnings that the lots are now patrolled and will be enforced• Issuing of enforceable notices that have a fine attached• Towing if there is non compliance

With the research they did they realized there were two big things other companies were not doing correctly and Ryan knew the first thing needed was to build a great relationship with the Calgary Parking Authority and that is what he did, finding out all that was needed for tagging and towing as well as how to warn people before doing these things. The process was then developed and it has been said by 10-106 Security clients that it is the best parking control service they have ever received.

FIRE WATCH 10-106 and Safety Barriers10-106 Security understands that when a fire alarm is tripped for whatever reason you are in need of a response and action plan that works within the legislation. They have devised a plan that is approved by governmental entities such as the CFD and the Solicitor General, which is as follows:

Page 12: 10-106 Calgary Security Firm Introduction Package

10-106.com 403-770-3036Video Mobile Patrol | Static Security | Video Surveillance | Monthly Video Monitoring

Steps to take for impairment:

• The extent and expected duration of the impairment have been determined. • The area or buildings involved have been inspected and the increased risk determined. • Recommendations have been submitted to management/building owner. • The Fire Department has been notified. • The insurance carrier, Alarm Company, building owner/ manager and other authorities having jurisdictions have been notified. • The supervisors in the area affected have been notified. • A tag impairment system has been implemented. • Necessary tools and materials have been assembled on the impairment site.

They also liaise with the Fire Marshal on a monthly basis to ensure they are fully prepared to handle situations that arise within the standards they set.

BAR/NIGHTCLUB AND RESTAURANT SECURITYWith these processes in place they were blown away when they were approached by some licensees from AGLC and asked if they could assist in securing some Restaurants and Bars that had a need for an outside security presence. Once again Ryan did some research and found out the rules and laws in regards to the working in an AGLC establishment and went to work.

The two establishments that were first on the list had a very jaded record; they had, had 2 stabbings in the 4 weeks prior; Non-compliance with the police on a regular basis; and patrons fighting in the streets. These instances needed to change or these establishments risked being shut down. Ryan went to work first gaining all licensing needed personally for the company to work in an AGLC establishment and then made all of his guards do the same. 10-106 Security is proud to report that since taking over these sites there have been zero stabbings. Anywhere there is alcohol there is bound to be some rowdiness once and awhile although having people of authority that are trained to deal with intoxicated people in a cordial way the fighting has been kept to a minimum and no injuries sustained.
