Greece Yalikavak (Turkey)-Bodrum

The island complex of the Dodecanese in the SE Aegean, is the sunniest corner in Greece.

Its crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, important archaeological finds, unique hamlets, imposing Byzantine and medieval monuments are all waiting to be discovered.

Cruises start in the Turkish port of Yalikavak and finish in Bodrum to satisfy Greek charter regulations. Yalikavak is just 1 hour from Bodrum international airport which is served daily with flights from Istanbul. It is also a day sail away from Kalimnos, our first Greek destination. Currencies are Euros for Greece and Turkish lira for Turkey. Credit cards are widely accepted.

Yalikavak was once a small fishing village and now has a 5 star marina and is one of the Turkish Riviera’s hotspots. The old village is a great place to walk around with lots of local colour.

Our first day of sailing is usually an exhilarating experience sailing the 20 miles across to Kalymnos, Greece with the traditional Meltemi breeze.

Day one,

On the island of Kalimnos is the authentic greek town of Pothia, it has a busy harbour front with lots of cafes and tavernas

Our next stop is to Panteli on the island of Leros

Day two

Panteli on Leros is a peaceful fishing village with a sheltered anchorage.

There is a great hike up to the Chora with stunning views at the top.

There are several waterside restaurants ashore

From Panteli we head to the island of Lypsi.

Day Three

Lipsi is an island of peace and quiet with a small fishing harbour surrounded with cafes. There is also a hike up to the hill top village.

There is a number of peaceful anchorages for the night.

From Lypsi we head to Lakki on the West side of Leros.

Day 4

Lakki on Leros is the main harbour on the island.

Its unusual because Mussolini (The Italian 2ww dictator) established an Italian navel base and community here in the late 1930s, making the buildings a mix of art deco and Italian rationalism.

Next stop is the island of Kos.

Day 5

To Kos, 26 miles

Kos is famous as the home of Hypocrites and still has the tree that he taught under.

It has a castle of the nights of St John and a walk in its wonderful historic streets reveals many examples of Venetian, Medieval and ancient architecture. There are many tavernas and restaurants in the busy, palm tree lined avenues.

Our last stop is back to Turkish Bodrum

Day 6

Our last day of sailing is usually an exhilarating experience sailing the 11 miles across to Bodrum with the traditional Meltemi breeze.

Ancient Halicarnassus, as it was called in Greek times, has the remains of the amphitheater that was one of the 7 wonders of the world.

Bodrum, as its called today is also proud of its underwater, archaeological museum within the castle of St Peter.

Its also a chic port, great for gourmet dining experiences and has a vibrant night life.
