Greece Bodrum (Turkey)-Marmaris

The island complex of the Dodecanes in the SE Aegean, is the sunniest corner in Greece.

Its crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, important archaeological finds, unique hamlets, imposing Byzantine and medieval monuments are all waiting to be discovered.

Cruises start in the Turkish port of Bodrum and finish in Marmaris to satisfy Greek charter regulations. Marmaris is just 45mins from Dalaman international airport which is served daily with flights from Istanbul. Bodrum and its airport are a day sail away from Kos, our first Greek destination. Currencies are Euros for Greece and Turkish lira for Turkey. Credit cards are widely accepted.

Our first day of sailing is usually an exhilarating experience sailing the 11 miles across to Kos, Greece with the traditional Meltemi breeze.

Ancient Halicarnassus, as it was called in Greek times, has the remains of the amphitheater that was one of the 7 wonders of the world.

Bodrum, as its called today is also proud of its underwater, archaeological museum within the castle of St Peter.

Its also a chic port, great for gourmet dining experiences and has a vibrant night life.

Bodrum to Kos, 11 miles

Day one,

Kos is famous as the home of Hypocrites and still has the tree that he taught under.

It has a castle of the nights of St John and a walk in its wonderful historic streets reveals many examples of Venetian, Medieval and ancient architecture. There are many tavernas and restaurants in the busy, plan lined avenues.

Our next stop is to the island of Tilos

Kos

To Tilos, 30 miles

Day two

Today we head to Tilos; It lies mid way between the island of Kos and Rhodes and has a sheltered harbour with the beautiful hill top town of Megalo, high up on the North of the island.

This is a beautiful traditional village of flowering courtyards and cobbled stoned alleys, overlooked by the castle of the knights of St John.

Also of interest are the Charkardio caves, home to the fossil bones of the last European dwarf elephants.

From the islands of Tilos we head to the island of Simi

to Panormitis, 20 miles

Day Three

Panormitis is famous for its monastery, dedicated to the arc angel Michael which has two interesting museums.

It is unique for the miraculous icon painting of the arc angel which led to the building of the monastery.

From Panormitis we head to the other side of Simi to its port.

Day 4

Simi port is a busy little harbour.

A stroll around the town is a captivating experience with charming pastel coloured houses.

Not to forget the walk to Kali strata up the 5o0 steps. The capital of the islands with fine Greek meals and a beautiful view.

Next stop is the island of Rhodes

Day 5

To Rhodes, 21 miles

Rhodes is a stunning city surrounded by its ancient walls. Behind which lies the oldest inhabited medieval city in Europe. Six centuries ago it was occupied by the nights of St John and now its 200 streets are home to fountains, churches, mosques and Byzantine ruins.

Leaving Rhodes behind us we head to Marmaris.

Day 6

Our last day of sailing is usually an exhilarating experience sailing the 23 miles across to Marmaris with the traditional Meltemi breeze.

Its a busy resort town with a well established and cosmopolitan yacht marina. It also has a bustling old town with its medieval castle which dates back to the 16th century. Its also the perfect place to shop!
