DELHI INSTITUTE OF HERITAGE RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT The Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management, was established as an autonomous Institute by the Govt. of NCT of Delhi, in 1998, to deal with the maintenance, management, conservation and preservation of the heterogeneity of the heritage products, through stimulating study and research for a multi segmented higher education stratum. Institute aims to achieve by imparting training to its students with emphasis to life long learning beyond the conventional education – to link theory with practice effectively. The Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management was conceived as a unique institution of its kind not only for India, but for the entire South Asian continental world. The Institute has undertaken the yeomen effort of initiating the new discipline of ‘Heritage Management’ to this part of the world, as up to now the study of heritage, its preservation, conservation, and management were Eurocentric in approach or were being undertaken as isolated studies in India focusing on either archival manuscript preservation or historic building conservation. The Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management aims to present all the multiplicity of efforts under the single unified umbrella of “Heritage Management”. An organization by coordinating a large number of human actions, creates a powerful social tool, by undertaking constant evaluation to adjust itself accordingly to achieve its goals in a rapidly changing external enviournment and internal constraints. The efforts of Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management are guided by the efforts of the University of York, which has to its credit the introduction of the postgraduate studies in Archaeological Heritage Management and Historic Buildings Conservation, more than three decades ago and is the premier leading institute now in the entire world. Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management hopes to replicate the success story of the Post graduate school of the University of York, and in the process tap unchartered areas in conservation and preservation studies with specific focus issues on heritage management in developing and tropical regions of the world. 2.1 Location The Institute is situated at 18A, Satsang Vihar Marg, Qutub Institutional Area, New Delhi – 110067. 2.2 Working Hours The Institute remains open, both for teaching and for administrative work on all working days (Monday through Friday) from 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. It remains closed on Saturday, Sunday and Gazetted holidays as observed in the State Govt. Departments. 2.3 Placement Facilities There is a placement cell headed by faculty member. Campus recruitment is a continuing feature of the institute. Prominent potential employers /establishments are invited in the institute for placing our students. Our students have been recruited/selected in the organizations /NGO’s/institution like National Museum-Delhi, IGNCA, INTACH, State Museums, Tourism organizations, Archaeological Survey of India’s institute etc. 2.4 Infrastructure Presently the institute is functioning from Delhi Archives building situated at 18-A, Satsang Vihar Marg, Qutub Institutional Area, New Delhi – 110067.
