IHO is a national non-governmental, humanitarian and development organization dedicated to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities through advocacy for and provision of services that meet the need of communities in South Sudan. In communities of South Sudan and Aweil North in particular, many children under five years of age are continuously being diagnosed of common sickness at this stage of life. These infections includes Malnutrition, Pneumonia, Malaria, Diarrhea among others BHI program saved a child’s life in Aweil north. (A case scenario of Mary Amir’s 4 months old baby) me and after one day my child opened his eyes. He saved my child’s life that way, Mary said in a voice of calm and misery. She said the program has come like a savior in the community SUCCESS STORIES OF BHI IN AWEIL NORTH Madam Mary Amir Kuot is a 25 years old single mother of 4 children who live in Malual West Payam, Majak Bai Boma, Warayet Village in Aweil North said in December towards Christmas her 4 months old baby woke up very well. The whole day the child was fine, breastfeeding well and not crying abnormally. In the night, she woke up and found that the child’s body was hot and the child was crying a lot. “I thought this child was going to die because the breathing was so rapid, body was very hot and child was restless”, she said. She said she started planning to take the child to the hospital which she was not even sure if she would get someone. Then she remembered that someone registered her and introduced himself that he has drugs and sick children should be taken to him. She decided to give a trial there since it was near. She rushed with the child to the BHW’s home. She knocked the door and they opened. She introduced herself and the BHW gave her sit. He entered in his room and brought out his things, asked me some few questions, I Daniel, BHW supervisor in Orange, Mary Amir Kuot, beneficiary with the baby and BHI program Officer during a field visit discussion He started working on the child. After a short while he said the child has chest infection (Cough) and Malaria. He told me that he has the drugs. He went and brought two types of drugs. He told me how to give it to the child. Also he told me to buy a drug called Paracetamol in the morning. He gave the drugs to the child and said you can go home now. In the morning, the child was looking better and can breastfeed now. I bought the drug he told In another phase of interview (same day and recorded) to know how the program is benefiting the community, Amir said she stays in a far distant of around 12 or 15 km and you can walk for 2 hours on foot without rest to reach in the facility (Majak Bai PHCC). She also stressed that BHI came at the right time because in these health facilities, some services are missing especially Lab investigations. BHW around her even do Lab test for children especially the mRDT. Mary Amir said BHI activities should continue in the community because services of the BHI are near and free of charge. She said the Health education given in the communities especially about the use of latrines. These made many people to think of digging a pit latrine but only faced the challenge of its accessories like the slaps, doors and pit digging equipment. She said the community members are really happy and are ready to support the BHI services because it has brought hospital very near the community members
