clear liquid 90% water) • Mucous Glands- secrete mucous • Mixed Glands- secrete both

• Found Under the Oral Mucosa –lips, cheeks, palate

Purpose of Saliva
• Cleanse the Oral Cavity• Moisten food during mastication (chewing)• Protects mucosal lining from dryness• Moistens tissues for ease in speech

• Located floor of the mouth. • Duct can become blocked due to calculus or
food causing swelling.

• •SMALLEST• •LOCATED-SUBLINGUAL FOSSA, NEAR
MANDIBULAR CUSPIDS BUT BELOW FLOOR OF THE MOUTH
