UMY is located on on a 27 hectare plot of land on the Southern Ring Road of Bantul Yogyakarta. The university has
7 faculties and a faculty of post-graduate studies. These faculties are Economics, Business and Management,
Engineering, Medicine, Religion, Social and Political Sciences, Agriculture, and Law. Established as a private university in
1980, it is currently the fastest growing university in Yogyakarta with 12,800 students from all over Indonesia.

Yogyakarta is Indonesia’s education capital with around 150 higher education institutions, eventhough it only has less than 3 million people. The city is located at the foot
of the Merapi mountain, and hosts the world famous Borobudur and Prambanan temples.

• UMY is part of the Muhammadiyah organization. Muhammadiyah is the largest social organization in Indonesia with around 25 million cultural members.
• Muhammadiyah has 166 higher education institutions, 979 senior high school,and more than 4,012 pre-primary lower education institutions.
• The organization also runs a chain of hospitals located in every province in the country.
