1. Prologue

Now listen to our tale of woe, It happened many years ago,

In Hamelin town they had a fright,Because the folk there didn’t do right.

They had their trouble, that’s for sure,It knocked on everybody’s door,

Though knocked is not exactly right,It gnawed and scampered day and night.

In room and chimney, hall and stair,This plague, it turned up everywhere,It made folk groan and beg and pray,

To get this curse to go away.

They tried to think – be sure of that – Of a way to get rid of their enemy,

The RAT!
