Car Buff News is the product of the husband and

wife team of Ron and Gale Burch of Flint Michigan.

Ron and Gale both grew up in the midst of a lot of

car lovers that they affectionately call “gear-heads”.

Ron is a Kearsley High School graduate, whose

father owned a race car that was run in the factory

stock division at Auto City Speedway in the 1970’s.

As Ron grew up, his dad instilled in him a love for

anything with a motor and wheels. Ron went on

to become a licensed mechanic, but that wasn’t

enough for him. He had that “need for speed”. So

over the years he’s managed to dabble in racing here

and there. He has ran a few of his own vehicles in

the “Spectator Drags” at Auto City Speedway and

Dixie Motor Speedway, as well as driven a couple of

cars belonging to other people in the factory stock

division.

Ron’s father switched from racing to cruising,

which he also had a passion

for. Of course, Ron has kept

up by going to a lot of cruises

and car shows, and by helping

his dad with the upkeep of his

cars. Currently, Ron’s dad is restoring a 1933 Chevy

five window coupe. Naturally, Ron has had his hands

in this project as well.

While Gale grew up instilled with a love for all

things car; her story is a little different. When she

was just a little girl, her father bought his first mus-

cle car, a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass. This was the first

time Gale fell in love with a muscle car, but would

not be the last. Being “daddy’s little girl” she got

to hang out in the garage with her dad, his friends,

and their cars. This quality time with her dad helped

forge her love of muscle cars.

While a senior in high school at Flint Southwestern,

in the mid 80’s, Gale bought a 1974 Chevelle Malibu

for a penny. That’s right! The guy sold it to her for

one cent! It belonged to Gale’s aunt’s friend, and

had an electrical problem that was keeping it from

running. Six months and $600.00 in paper route

and babysitting earnings later, she had her up and

running. Now Gale was really in love with a car. This

one left a soft spot in her heart for the Chevelles of

the 1970’s

While she grew up loving cars; muscle cars in

particular, Gale had never visited a race track until

the spring of 1996 when she met Ron. He took her

to her first race that spring at Dixie Motor Speedway

and she loved it! Their friendship grew and they mar-

ried in 2001. Since then the two of them try to make

it to as many races as possible during the season as

well as catching as many cruises as possible around

mid Michigan.

This past summer Ron and Gale got a special

treat. They got to cruise in the “Back to the Bricks”

cruise in Ron’s dad’s 2008 Dodge Challenger. They

had a blast! It was that experience that sparked the

idea for this publication. They wanted to keep the

camaraderie of the cruising, racing, and collecting,

rebuilding and restoring circuit going all through

the year. So they consulted with a couple of experts

who said, “I think you’re on to something here”.

With that, Ron and Gale took their idea and ran with

it. With the loyal help of a few trusted friends and

the support of a few family members, here it is…

One of a Kind2007 Roush Mustang Convertible R

THATAA caught Shawn’s attention. He mentioned to hisfriend that he would like to test drive one of those cars.Within a day or two he was at the local Ford dealershipto do just that. The car he test drove was a 2007 Mustang hard top, but that didn’t matter to Shawn. He was inlove! Deciding to order one from the factory for himself,

Shawn beganto look at the differ-ent packagesoffered at the time. The packagethat caughtShawn’s eye was the Roush StageII Mustang. He chose

the Stage II over the Stage III package because there were certain options he could get with the Stage II that weren’t available with the Stage III. Shawn’s pony would,of course have to be a convertible, but there were other features that would make this car special. For instance, no racing or pin stripes on this little filly. She’s black on black. She has Roush signature, leather, buckea stainless steel dash board with factory Forddifferent color effects when its dark and the dare on. It came with the Stage II 425hp motoon factory 18 inch low profile wheels and tirethe only Roush Stage II Mustang built that yewith a factory convertible top. This and theother personal touches Shawn ordered make her “one of a kind”. The car is completely “factory” except for the head lights and the tail lights, which are after market parts.A few months after owning the car, the

tensioner pulley needed to be replaced so

Shawn took her back to the dealership. While she wasthere, Shawn received a call from a Roush representativeasking if they could add an experimental 2008 processorto the car’s computer and give her a little update. Shawn agreed. The experimental chip they added increasedthe car’s horse power by 125hp, taking her from 425hpto 550hp. They also gave her a tighter suspension and Roush steering. Shawn says she handles like a dream and is really fast. The factory estimates that the car will go a quarter mile in 8.9 seconds. That’s pretty fast for a fac-tory car! Although he says he’s never raced her or timed her, Shawn has had a couple of opportunities to openher up on the back roads near his home. Shawn told Car Buff News that the fastest he’s had her up to is 135mph,and she was still pulling like she wanted more, but therewasn’t enough traffic free open road to give his pony anymore rein.Shawn confided to Car Buff News that he has been

stopped by the police for speeding with this pretty, black, one of a kind, Mustang. He said he’s gotten a ticket or two, but he also got compliments on the car from the po-licemen issuing the tickets. He told us that one cop even pulled him over just to get a good look at the car and talk to him about it. With a car like this it’s hard to go slow and even harder not to get noticed!

Auto Salvage owner, Shawn Pardo was watching American Idol on T.V. They announced the winner and then showed the viewing audience what the winner would receive. One of the prizes was a brand new (2007) Ford Mustang convertible.

FOR Reggie Shelton and his 1932 Buick Sedan, it’s both! Shelton bought his ’32 Buick from Steve DeWitt who had

inherited the car. Ernie Croscoe, from EC-1 Race Cars, started to restore it as a street rodabout 6 years ago, but Reggie finished it,making it street legal and capable of doing8:50 seconds in the ¼ mile at the drag stripwith the blown 509 cu. in. big block Chevy motor with roughly 1300 hp. That motor has a 1071 blower and runs on E-85 fuel. He is expecting some faster times on the strip inthe coming season.

Some of you may have seen this beautiful car at Milan Dragway, or Michigan Motorplex. He also frequents some of the local cruises and shows like “Back to the Bricks” in Flint, and the “Woodward Dream Cruise”. It alsogets driven on the streets in Flint around their home. Reggie says he’s only been pulled over one time with it and that was because he took it out on the streets near his home andsomething broke while he was “geso he had to use a chain and tow The police pulled him over for towlike that, but not for speeding.

Up north in Hillman, MI, the police block off one of the roads near the school in town and al-low drag racing on that street. Last year Reggie took home the “King of the Hill” trophy and got his name and picture in the localpaper up there. Both of whichare proudly displayed in theShelton family home.

Reggie also tells us that he

watching that episode! This should prove to be an interesting show, not to mention, a lot of fun for the Shelton family.

When he’s not tinkering in his shop where he’s helped a lot of local guys get their carsready for racing or cruising, he likes to takeadvantage of the social aspect of being in-volved with drag racing and cruising. Dur-ing the off season he gets together with other classic and drag-car owners and goesbowling or plays cards. During the summer,he and his family camp out at some of the events with other racing and cruising families. They enjoy sitting around the campfire with good friends at night, and racing or cruisingduring the day. That’s what it’s all about…showing off your car and having fun with agreat group of people!
