•The scope of the MSC Principles and Criteria relates to marine fisheries
activities up to but not beyond the point at which the fish are landed.•
•Freshwater fisheries also included
•The MSC Principles and Criteria apply at this stage only to wild capturefisheries (including, but not limited to shellfish, crustaceans andcephalopods).
•Aquaculture not currently included but some types of enhancedfisheries are (see enhanced fisheries section)
•Introduced Species Based Fisheries (ISBFs) may only be consideredin scope if the introduction cannot now be safely reversed and if theintroduction occurred at least 20 years prior to the application for assessment (see MSC website for further details)
•Issues involving allocation of quotas and access to marine resources areconsidered to be beyond the scope of these Principles and Criteria.
