10 when pupils go on a field visit to Blackpool to collect data.• The write up is under controlled conditions and is completed in

Year 11.• NO WORK for this will be completed at home

• Approximately 2000 word controlled assessment to be written up in school.

• 20 hours of write up time in school (6 hours to be under strict exam conditions)

Exams:•linear course, exams at the end of Y11

Assessment Throughout the Course:•End of Unit tests and progress tests •These are internal assessments and are all written using exam questions from higher and foundation tier papers.•The results from these papers will help us to check on progress and understanding.

Marking of assessments:•Using GCSE mark schemes and GCSE marking styles•Usually 50 marks •A* 80%, A 70%, B 60%, C 50%, D 40%

Student Self Reflection:•After each assessment, students will complete a self reflection task and will spend timing revisiting the paperto see where they need to improve their understanding.

•In class, students self and peer assess their work•Done using the purple pen of progress•Easy to check understanding and progress•Parents can check this in exercise books

•To be completed in a different colour pen if possible (not black, blue or purple) •Mostly exam questions and command word exercises •Some research tasks, ongoing revisionor complimentary tasks •Parents can check all homework in exercise books •Aim for every week homework

•As a department, when your child is working welland making good progress we will always try tosend postcards or letters home to keep youinformed.•Termly grade sheets will always show the grade that your child is currently working at.•If your child is underperforming in end of topicexams or there is a general cause for concernwith attitude towards learning letters will besent home and parents invited into school

In Year 10 your child has 4 hoursof Geography in school per fortnight.This increases to 5 hours perfortnight in Year 11.

We produce our own revisionwork books to help students structure their own revision athome.We run revision classes every Monday

night and at lunchtimes aroundexam time. Watch out for informationabout these sessions around school and letters.

Plan adventure...Ask your child to plan a day trip as part of your family holiday.
