Our Coaches – Mrs. Teresa Nelson, Mr. Karl Johnson, Mr. Jared Soliman, Miss Alexa Isaac, Mr. Ronald Valles, Mr. Martin Gonzalez, Mr. Joshua Ramirez, Mr. Matthew Nolan, Miss Elisha Ty, Miss Lauren Bruns, and Miss Riley Miguel are also recognized for their hardwork and for instilling discipline and focus in their team. Spotlighting and focusing on a player’s value can help build their self-confidence and self-esteem. Celebrating the success of a team goes beyond sports, and really highlights how hardwork, willpower, and perseverance can bring success in any area of life.

Our Sports Banquet has been so far a great opportunity to have all of the players, parents, coaches, and school administration to be in one place after our school year of sports. Holy family Grade School’s celebration featured a highlight spool of the best plays of the year. It was a time to all be together to reflect on the great year and to set expectations for School Year 2019 – 2020!

An Environmental Talk – by Adrienne Lia Soriano Cua, Founder of www.EarthCrewKids.com with 3rd through 7th Grade Classes

Imagine all the trash you throw out…

Posted on March 28, 2019 https://earthcrewkids.wordpress.com/

No, really. Every day, we throw out so much trash, even if it could still be used again. And once we throw things out, what happens to it? Most of the trash we’ve thrown away is still somewhere on earth. Did you know that every piece of plastic ever made is still on this planet? And it’s not like humans are going to stop producing waste anytime soon. The best thing to do would be to try and cut back on the amount of waste we produce.

How can we do that? Well, we can reuse and recycle some of the things we use only once instead of just throwing things away. For example, plastic grocery bags and sheets of aluminum foil can be used more then once. If they’re dirty, you can rinse them and hang them outside to dry first. Instead of throwing plastic bottles away, you can rinse their insides and use them for bottle bricks. (See What are Bottle Bricks?) You can also make scrap paper pads instead of throwing partly used sheets of paper away. Gather a stack of scrap papers that are about the same size and staple one end together.

Another thing you can do to reduce the amount of waste you produce is to replace single-use items that you use on a regular basis with reusable items. For example, instead of drinking bottled water, you can get a reusable tumbler (there are so many pretty ones in the market nowadays) that you can refill with water again and again. You can bring a metal straw to restaurants instead of using a lot of plastic straws, and you can use a cloth towel to dry your hands and wipe up spills instead of using paper towels.

These are just a few examples to get you started on reducing your trash. If you come up with any other ideas to reduce waste, we’d love to hear them!

Mrs. Rebecca Ramirez

A Farewell Message from Mrs. Ramirez, Miss Padilla, and Miss Bruns

From: Mrs. Rebecca Ramirez, Part-Time Kindergarten Teacher Assistant

Dear HFGS Families, I wish to thank you for your kindness and support these past two years. I have enjoyed working very closely with the Kindergarten children and their families in the capacity of an Instructional Assistant. Every day was always filled with excitement. Although I will miss working here, I am pursuing my career as Child Life Specialist. My time with you and the kids has definitely given me skills and experience that I will use in the future. I am also going to focus on supporting my son as he transitions into his first year of high school and also on assisting my youngest as he prepares for his Sacrament of Holy Eucharist. The faculty, parents, and students of Holy Family will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you!

From: Miss Dolores Padilla, Part-Time Art Teacher

Dear HFGS Families, I have had the tremendous honor of working at Holy Family Grade School for the last two years. During this time, I have worked with amazing students, staff, and faculty. I always looked forward to working with my students and introducing them to new artists, techniques, and styles. I have had the lucky opportunity to instill and nurture creativity in the classroom. In the words of Picasso, “Every child is an artist.” New directions will be explored for the following academic year and I wish everyone the best! Thank you. Miss Dolores Padilla

From: Miss Lauren Bruns, Part-Time 1st Grade Teacher Assistant

Dear HFGS Families, It was indeed a beautiful school year spent with our 1st Grade students, Miss Bote, and families. I love our first grade students and I am honored to be part of Holy Family Grade School. I will pursue my studies on a full-time scale as soon as this academic year is over. I wish you all a happy Summer and I am very grateful for the part time work opportunity that Holy Family Grade School gave me for this school year! God bless. Miss Lauren Bruns

On March 5, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis had tapped the 68-year-old priest to become the newest auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, where Msgr. Aclan has served as a priest for 25 years. Aclan’s announcement and ordination makes him the second Filipino-American priest to be named bishop in the U.S. The first was Bishop Oscar Solis, who served as an auxiliary bishop in Los Angeles from 2004 until 2017, before Francis named him Bishop of Salt Lake City. Bishop Aclan served as the LA Archdiocese’s vicar for clergy.

Welcome, Bishop Alex Aclan, New Vicar for the San Fernando Pastoral Region of the ADLA!

Los Angeles Auxiliary Bishop Joseph V. Brennan succeeded the retired Bishop Armando Ochoa as the next bishop of Fresno. For the last three years, Brennan has served as episcopal vicar for the San Fernando Pastoral Region of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ and the victory he has won for us (Romans 8:35-39). The Holy Spirit gives us the strength and courage we need to overcome every adversity and to persevere with

For Our Prayerful Meditation

The Holy Spirit fills us with expectant faith, persevering hope, and unfailing love While we cannot avoid all pain and suffering which may come our way in this life, the Lord Jesus assures us that he has overcome the world and all that would seek to keep us from his saving help and healing presence. He promises to guide us safely through any trial or hardship we may have to undergo for his sake. The Lord Jesus gives us the gift of his Holy Spirit who strengthens us with faith, courage, and perseverance to stay the course which he has set for us. The Holy Spirit fills us with a living hope in the power of Christ's resurrection (1 Peter 1:3) and reassures our heart with a confident trust in God's abiding presence.

faith and hope in God. Do you believe in the power of Christ's love for you and in the victory he has won for you through his death and resurrection?

"Lord Jesus, help me to trust in your unwavering love and saving help, especially when I meet adversities, trials, and temptations. Give me your peace when I am troubled and let me know the joy of your victory over sin and death."
