PARIVARTAN

„Parivartan‟ – The Slum Education Programme : Athletic Competition

6th April, 2014 activity of „Parivartan‟, the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad made

everyone in the slum and the nearby area to come out of their houses to find out the reason for the unusual surge and

hullabaloo. Actually this was an athletic competition organized by Parivartan exclusively for the slum children.

Volunteers of the day Vinod Kumar, Mayukh Jana, Anu Verma, Ayushi Jain, Subhajit Mitra, Anshu Sharma, Mashooq

Ahmad Malik, Pushpank Kaushik, Shayan Das Gupta, Chhatoi Rakesh Taunk and Sudhir Singh started day‟s activity with

a poem ‘Aalu bola mujhko kha lo, Mai tumko mota kar doonga. Paalak boli mujhko kha lo, mai tumko taakat de doongi’

and elaborated the importance of health and strength in life. Little later they announced the Athletic Competition

scheduled for the day and explained its rules. The news spread faster than fire and within minutes little Milkhas, partly

clad, started pouring in with a request „mai bhi dauloonga‟ (I shall also run).

Soon the race started. The children were divided into four categories on the basis of their height and age. First, Second

and Third winners of each group were awarded with an ITS coffee mug just after the competition. The joy and zeal on the

faces of winners and their parents was really noticeable. While the „bundles of joy‟ were rolling on the racing tracks,

many random spectators were seen enjoying the scene with a chuckle.

The day‟s activities ended with the distribution of biscuits and chocolates among all the children as routine. Faculty

coordinator Prof. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi accompanied the volunteers and enjoyed the visit.

„Parivartan‟ – The Slum Education Programme

13th

April, 2014 activity of „Parivartan‟, the

Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative

of ITS, Ghaziabad was again a special day in

the slum as we distributed donated stationery

items among the slum children.

Volunteers of the day Sumati Garg, Jai Prakash

Prajapati, Khadeeja Abdeen, Himani Rajpoot,

Soni Sharma, Chhatoi Rakesh Taunk, Subhajit

Mitra, Aman Singhal and Pushpank Kaushik

started the class with the table of 2 and 3 again

but this time with the following questions and

on the spot prizes.

For example – the table of 2 was recited, repeated and practiced in Hindi and then the slum children were asked

„How much money will you pay to the seller for three packets of biscuits costing Rs. 2 each?‟ Those who

raised hands first and replied correctly got the prizes.

Second session of the day was Poem practice

session as usual in which the little students

enjoyed „Roj savere sair pe jaao, manjan karo

maje se nahaao. Pooja karke fir kuchh khao,

Hanste-hanste padhne jaao‟. The volunteers

also announced that the next Sunday they

would organize Origami Competition for the

slum children.

As soon as we started distributing books,

notebooks and other stationery that

„Parivartan‟ had received in three bags from

Mrs. Monica Arora, (Wife of Mr. B.K. Arora,

Secretary, ITS – The Education Group) as

donation, there was excitement and uproar all

around.

Somebody wanted the most colourful book and somebody wanted the thickest one. Somebody wanted the

drawing and coloring book and somebody the storybook. Since the stock was more than sufficient, we could

entertain most of the requests and expectations.

„Parivartan‟ – The Slum Education Programme

20th

April, 2014 activity of „Parivartan‟, the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad

was an Origami Competition in which the slum children made their imaginations come into realities.

Volunteers of the day – Pushpank Kaushik, Vinod Kumar, Khadeeja Abdeen, Krittika Tayal, Anshu Sharma,

Ajay Kumar, Abhishek Singh, Aman Pushpak, Ankit Arora, Tarun Kumar, Ishan Bhardwaj, Neeraj Kumar,

Anuj Gaur, Vishal Babu Gangwar, Vishal Tiwari and Anurag Kumawat started the competition by describing

the rules and distributing the papers. „Ori‟ means folding and „gami‟ means paper. Thus origami means making

something by folding a sheet of paper.

As soon as the competition started the little fingers got busy in making something unique out of their

imaginations. Somebody made a flower that had the fragrance of innocence, somebody made a robust boat that

could sail faster than Titanic and some made aeroplanes that could not only fly to long distances but also land

safely on the ground. Out of hundreds of such articles prepared on the spot, three were selected as the best ones

and were given ITS Coffee Mugs as prizes. The day had one more pleasant surprise for the slum children.

Parents of the volunteer Pushpank Kaushik had sent new T-shirts, skirts and shorts, around hundred in total, for

the tiny tots. The slum children and their parents were overjoyed to have these goodies. This is worth a mention

here that Parivartan does not request or expect any such donation from anybody as all the expenses are fully

borne by I.T.S. – The Education Group but if somebody is not personally able to visit slums and wishes to use

Parivartan as a channel to convey something to the slum children, Parivartan facilitates.

The activity for the day ended with the distribution of biscuits and chocolates among all the children as routine.

Faculty coordinator Prof. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi accompanied the volunteers and enjoyed the visit.

Bhardwaj, Neeraj Kumar, Vishal Tiwari, Alok

Sharma, Ravneet Kaur and Pavan Gupta started the

class with the table of 4 & 5 recited in Hindi &

English both. This was followed by a poem „Vinti

sun lo he bhagwaan. Aisa do humko vardaan…‟

This day again had a pleasant surprise for the

slum children. Mr. Sanjeev Jain resides in

Vasundhara and has a business of school

bags manufacturing. He, along with his

friend Mr. Vikas, had requested „Parivartan‟

to facilitate the distribution of around 30 new

school bags, notebooks and stationery to the

slum children. Out of around 120 slum

children, „Parivartan‟ identified 30 most

regular and studious children to avail the

benefit.

The joy on the faces of the recipients and their parents was obvious and lasting. This is worth a mention here

that Parivartan does not request or expect any such donation from anybody as all the expenses are fully borne

by I.T.S. – The Education Group but if somebody wishes to use Parivartan as a channel to convey something to

the slum children, Parivartan facilitates.
