National Presidents Report

Hi TBirder’s

Well it’s almost winter and I guess most of the Tbird’s will only come

out if it’s a beautiful sunny autumn or winter’s day. Hopefully we will

have some of those so we can enjoy our Thunderbirds, because summer

is a long way off and the birds need to spread their wings now and then.

Of course the cooler months allow time for all those little things that

you put off, perhaps that much needed service or just repairs.

On May 21st 16 Thunderbird Club members are staying at Adelong and

attending the Batlow Cider fest. This should be a fun event. My thanks

to the NSW Branch members who will drive the 430 kilometres (each

way) to attend this event. If the weather remains mostly fine we will

have fun and of course there will be the social event Saturday Night at

my place. Look out Adelong!!

There seems to be some type of activity at least every second weekend

in both NSW and Victoria which is great to see. So much for slowing

down during winter!

In June there are a number of us going to the Gold Coast for a unique

event ‘Cooly Rocks’. There will be a lot of Tbirds going for the drive to

the sunshine and it may be a great time to see if we can find some new

members in Queensland. I will be flying up because of time constraints.

I am looking forward to the “All Ford Day” event at Eastern Creek,

sorry, Sydney Motorsport Park. (Funny I was talking to the consultants

Page 6: 1 of 2 Retro Birds Registered in Australia...The Cockington Green Miniature Village Canberra Reptile Zoo Canberra Walk in Aviary The National Dinosaur Museum Country Craft Shops and

3 years back, hired to find new ways for ARDC to present itself and I

suggested that there were a lot of motorsport centres in the USA called

Motorsport Parks and they got paid for it: bugger) in July this will be a

great event and a must to do. Then there is of course the CMC event in

August. Big and fun!

Then of course we have the National Concours in beautiful Canberra

NSW. This will be a great event and I know that the NSW Branch; the

hosts for this year’s event will set a new high standard for the weekend.

I am looking forward to the Concours in our nation’s capital.

Happy T Birding

Mike

NSW Report May 2017

It’s me again, as Tery is not in a position to put this month’s report

together, so here we go…

As you know we recently held the NSW State Titles (Show n Shine) in

Batemans Bay on 31st March to 2nd April. We were initially worried

about the lack of support for this event, but after doing some analysis,

everyone who would normally have attendd were accounted for in one

way or another. Unfortunately we had a couple of late cancellations,

and of significance was Jim Kerr, who had to pull out at the last

moment due to a health scare, but I am glad to advise you that he is

firing on all cylinders once again, with the odd hiccup!!

For those who did attend, we had a great weekend. Everyone liked the

accommodation and especially the location. We started with a BBQ

‘Meet n Greet’ on Friday night (thanks to Chris and Laraine for doing

the shopping). It was great to re-establish a connection with club

members Matt and Mary Semenas, who live in Batemans Bay, as we

have not seen them since our last Concours in Old Bar. Also, new

members John and Katherine Firth from Ulladulla attended, so it was

good to have some of our south coast members being represented.

We had a very leisurely start on Saturday morning, driving to the park,

where we displayed the cars right on the bay. Tery arranged the voting

slips, which were given to all members and the passer-by traffic as well.

For me, it was great to just sit around and do a whole lot of nothing,

except socialise.

Page 9: 1 of 2 Retro Birds Registered in Australia...The Cockington Green Miniature Village Canberra Reptile Zoo Canberra Walk in Aviary The National Dinosaur Museum Country Craft Shops and

9 May 2017

The results of voting were interesting. As club members, we tend to be

a bit critical of what is right and what is wrong with a car, but when you

have the voting public involved, all they care about is colour and

design, and the results speak for themselves. Congratulations going to

Sid and Jill Howard for the Best of Show Award. Also congratulations

to all the other trophy winners as well.

After the voting we returned to the Resort, where a number of our club

fishing fraternity threw a line into the bay, as we were only metres from

the water. There were a lot of bites, but as usual the big one got away!!

This was followed by nice dinner at the Services Club, with trophy

presentations, birthday cakes for those members celebrating in and

around the event, and we were all back at the Resort by about 10pm. On

behalf of Tery, I would like to thank everyone who attended this event

and also a big thank you to those who helped in the planning/running of

the Event.

Our next big event is Cooly Rocks in Coolangatta on the June long

weekend. The response to this event has been fantastic, with 38

attending and 15 cars travelling north via Coffs Harbours for a stopover.

We have secured dedicated parking (at a premium) in the main street,

which allows us to have all the cars parked together. This is the 1st time

the organisers have done this, as it was always 1st in best dressed. I

can’t wait to see all the birds parked together.

I am not up-to-date on the sick list mentioned in the last magazine, as

we have just got home from holidays, but I hope you are all doing well.

New additions to the list is Tony Napier and Jim Boyd, who are also

recovering from recent surgery as well and I would also like to wish

Ann Wallis all the best for her upcoming treatment this week. On behalf

of the Club, I would like to wish everyone a speedy recovery.

In closing, I hope you and your families had a wonderful Easter break

and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the

upcoming Mt Tomah and The Entrance events.

Cheers, Steve

Victorian Report May 2017

Well time again for the Magazine, well as you already know the State

titles have been and gone we did something different this year. The

titles were held at the all-American day. We had an unbelievable

turnout of THUNDERBIRDS and members bringing a plate of

something we had BBQ going, so a very enjoyable day was had by all.

I must thank all judges for their support on the day; also all members

that chipped in and helped with the various things that had t be done.

A big thanks goes out to Leanne Easey for organizing the

beautiful location we had to display the cars, as well as organizing all

trophies, but the day could not have worked out without the help of

Leanne, Amanda, Simon and Rosa all helping as well and setting up for dinner and presentation night the next night.

Now onto ‘MAKE THEM SHINE’. Well what a year this was!

The Good Friday Appeal was a fantastic day and well worth the hard

work put into organizing the day from Platan, Ross, John G, Leanne

and John T, Amanda and Simon, and of course Charlie and Rosa.

We had total of 79 cars, a Bike and 2 trucks, vans, army vehicles, etc.

We also had 2 bands performing on the day entertaining the masses

with some easy music to go by. A record number of visitors came

through the doors and we had can rattlers stationed at the main front

door as well as the entry into the car display collecting money. We

also had Terry Blacks Beautiful 62 convertible on display. All we could

hear was ‘WE WANT YOUR MONEY FOR THE KID’! With cans

rattling we had kids going crazy along with Batman and Cat Woman.

The Jurassic Park Crew and the Kenworth Truck were the most popular

attractions on the day as were the ‘movie cars’. A big thank you to

Melbourne Old School Cruisers , Dutton Garage for supplying 6 exotic

cars from a Maclaren 675lt to a Ferrari F40, K6 club, HQ Racing

Association and all the members that attended. Some members were

Page 12: 1 of 2 Retro Birds Registered in Australia...The Cockington Green Miniature Village Canberra Reptile Zoo Canberra Walk in Aviary The National Dinosaur Museum Country Craft Shops and

12 May 2017

there on Thursday as well as Saturday, so a big effort was had by all. So

to all the members that belong to this Great Car Club “we did it we

raised $65,171.70. So get ready will be back again next year bigger and

better! I also must not forget to thank the National Thunderbird

Committee for the help they have given in funds towards the MAKE

THEM SHINE day.

THANK TO ALL FOR YOU HELP AND ASSISTANCE
