8.8 The student will investigate and solve problems involving volume and surface area of cones and pyramids, using concrete materials and practical situations.

8.10 The student will describe, classify, and construct plane figures and solid figures, including prisms, pyramids, cylinders, and cones.

7.9 The student will investigate and solve problems involving the volume and surface area of a rectangular prisms and cylinders, using concrete materials and practical situations to develop formulas.

3

The purpose of the presentation is to provide middle school students with an interactive way to learn how to solve

problems involving area, surface area, and volume.

Merrill’s Pre-Algebra Book Chapter 13 Measuring Area and Volume:

•Practice Problems in the Book

•Practice Worksheets

Other Activities:

•Students can draw and color pictures using 15 different geometric shapes.

•Students can create paper nets of different figures for a more concrete representation of shapes.

•Students can make a slit book of all formulas and pictures of the geometric shapes.
