8. What caused people’s attitudes toward Nkrumah to change before and after his death? At first, Nkrumah was popular because of his fight for independence was successful. He was then thrown out of office because people blamed him for the country’s economic problems. When he died, many people felt he had done his best, and thought of him as a hero who led Ghana towards independence.
