“A Vital Part of Everyday Life”

Transportation is a vital part of everyday life we often take for

granted. Recently, Utah identified a significant shortfall in maintaining our

current infrastructure as well as providing future needs as our population

continues to grow rapidly.

This Spring Utah state legislators passed HB 362, which will raise the

gas tax about 5 cents per gallon, starting January 1, 2016. This is expected

to help address the decline in buying power of the cents per gallon tax,

which was estimated to have lost 40 percent with inflation since 1997 when

it was last adjusted. Here in Lindon, we as a Council and staff have been

looking at ways to preserve our current roads, sidewalks and trails, and plan

for future mass transit so that we can accommodate our projected population

growth, which is expected to grow 54% within 20 years.

Interestingly, the Utah League of Cities and Towns had this to say,

“Our transportation paradigm is changing. We are walking and cycling and

using mass transit. Our cars are becoming more energy efficient. Healthy

communities need to provide connected routes to provide a system that is

safe and convenient.”

Many believe good transportation will also impact economic

development, air quality, and personal health. If we invest in one need -

transportation - improvements will be seen in fundamental areas that affect

our quality of life. And by planning today, Lindon will not only avoid

higher costs to fix crumbling roads later, but hopefully attract more jobs and

businesses to our city that provide revenue, complete our trail system for

biking and walking, and maintain the wonderful quality of life we all enjoy

long into the future.

2015 MONUMENT TO FREEDOM

All are invited to attend as the community of Lindon will

hold our annual Memorial Day Ceremony honoring all

Lindon veterans for their military service. Each year, the

Lindon City Police Department, with the full support of

the Mayor and City Council, spearheads the effort to

collect and authenticate the names of those who have

done so much to preserve our freedoms. This effort

culminates each Memorial Day as a spectacular, one

hour program that is held including a special message

from an honored veteran, patriotic music by a Lindon

Youth Choir, the reading of the role of honor, a 21-gun

salute followed by the playing of Taps and the solemn

placing of a traditional wreath upon the monument by an

honored guest.
