PPE is defined in the Regulations as ‘all equipment (including clothing affording protection against the weather) which is intended to be worn or held by a person at work and which protects him against one or more risks to his health or safety
e.g. safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high visibility clothing, safety footwear and safety harnesses.

Feet / Legs Safety boots and shoes with protective toe caps and penetration-Resistant mid-sole, gaiters, leggings, spats.
Breathing Disposable filtering face piece or respirator, half- or full-face respirators, air-fed helmets, breathing apparatus.
Body Conventional or disposable overalls, boiler suits, specialist protective clothing, e.g. chain-mail aprons, high-visibility clothing.

Impact Flying objects such as large chips, fragments, particles, sand, and dirt.
Chipping, grinding, machining, masonry work, wood working, sawing, drilling, riveting, sanding, etc.

Provide adequate protection against the particular hazards for which they are designed [1926.102(a)(6)];
Be of safe design and construction for the work to be performed [1910.132(c)];
Be reasonably comfortable [1926.102(a)(6)(ii)];
Fit snugly and shall not unduly interfere with the movements of the wearer [1926.102(a)(6)(iii)];

Employees must use PPE in accordance with training, instructions and requirement of the job
Employees must use alternative PPE if existing PPE is not recommended due to incompatibility. (The job must be modified to eliminate the hazard requiring PPE or the employee must change jobs)
Employees cannot sign waiver and accept risk of injury
Employees shall not place other employees in an unprotected hazardous
situation

The employer SHALL ensure that employees are provided and use appropriate personal protective equipment when they are exposed to hazards requiring their use
Use of PPE shall be incorporated into employee work plans and will be enforced as any other key responsibility/dimension including disciplinary action
