Hermosa fled to Colombia, where he contracted tonsillitis and was finally recaptured; but in 1996 he was released because he served the sentence and went to live with his father in Nueva Loja, in Sucumbíos.

On February 28, 1996, the day he would meet 20 years, Hermosa body was found on the banks of the Aguarico River. Police revealed that apparently would have killed five hooded.
