Comparable DistrictsDeer Valley YES - District pays cost of retiree health insurance up to age 65
Gilbert NO - Retiree pays 100% of health benefits after retirement (either on COBRA or a benefit extension through district)
Glendale Union
YES - District continues to pay for 100% of medical ($641.23/month) dental ($37.29/month) and life insurance ($7.20/month) coverage. Began excluding all new hires.
Mesa NO - District does not pay for any retiree health benefits. Retirees pay for COBRA or ASRS health insurance.
Paradise Valley YES - District pays retiree $367 per month (certified) and $375 per month (classified) toward their ASRS insurance. Retirees need to sub five days per year for free and/or pay $35 per month (certified) and $27 per month (classified) which is included in the $367/$375 amount above. PV still pays for some “grandfathered” family coverage for approx. 96 employees, but eventually once retiree turns 65, it is discontinued.
Scottsdale NO - District does not pay for any retiree health benefits. Retirees pay for COBRA.
Washington NO - District does not pay for any retiree health benefits. Retirees pay for COBRA.
