1.1 Rights of the GymnastApparatus She must use an additional 10 cm soft

mat on top of the existing basic landing mats (20 cm).for dismounts on Vault, Bars and Beam.

The supplementary mat can not be moved during the exercise.

She is permitted to place the take-off board on the supplementary 10 cm landing mat.

1.1 Rights of the Gymnast Additional Matting – Valid in Canada Only (VICO)

On UB, one safety mat may be in place for a D, E, F, G (C for Novice) release element and 2 moves immediately preceding or following the element but may not be in place for the dismount.

For the Novices only, two 20 cm safety mats are allowed under the bars, regardless of content; however, the mats cannot be moved during the routine. The coach may stand on the safety mats for C+ release elements and for the dismount. If only one mat is used, it must be slid under the bars and removed according to the rule stated in above.

On UB, when a 20 cm safety mat must be slid in for a D+ release element (C for Novice), the 10 cm supplementary mat may be left slightly to the side at the beginning of the routine so that tall gymnasts do not brush / hit the safety mat. As soon as the 20 cm safety mat is removed, the coach must adjust placement of the 10 cm supplementary mat so that it is in the correct position for the dismount.

On UB, the 10 cm supplementary mat used for minimum B release elements for all categories may remain under the rails during the entire routine provided that the routine includes at least one of the required elements.

On UB, the gymnast may NOT HAVE A 20 CM SAFETY MAT AND A COACH IN A POSITION TO SPOT, (exception – Novice category).

On UB, one 10 cm mat will be available to address the needs of matting under the rails and for the dismount. The 20 cm additional safety mat may be placed over the supplementary matting.

On FX, the mats must be placed at the beginning of the exercise; they may be removed immediately after the acro line is completed, moved to another location or left in place. The intent is to have the least possible movement of mats and coaches on and around the floor during the routine. The coach may not hold the mat in place.

On FX, the matting for acro lines, 1 x 5 cm and 2 x 10 cm mat will be provided. Maximum total height allowed is 10 cm.

On FX, if the mat is placed over the line(s) indicating the end of the floor area and if a gymnast appears to be out-of-bounds, the line judge will call a line violation. The benefit of the doubt is NOT given to the gymnast.

On UB and BB, for mounts requiring a gymnastic board on UB and BB, a thin wooden plank (approx. 2 cm.), as large as the gymnastic board, may be placed under the gymnastic board. The organizer must provide a plank at the UB and the BB.

Deduction in Case of Use of Un-permitted Additional Matting on UB - by D1 JudgeVICO

There is a 0.50 deduction for a coach standing on or beside an additional 20 cm safety mat except when placing or removing the mat. (Except for the Novice category.)

The 0.50 deduction will be applied if the 20 cm safety mat is left in place, immobile too long - maximum 2 moves preceding and following each acceptable element.

There is a 0.50 deduction if the 20 cm safety mat is under the rail and no D, E, F or G element (C for Novice) release element is performed.

Warm-upWarm-up General warm-up: In Canada, gymnasts are authorized to

use any apparatus during the general warm-up. They may

vault and/or perform skills or routines.

During the pre-competition apparatus warm-up, a gymnast

may warm-up only on the apparatus where she will compete.

Unauthorized warm-up will be considered as

unsportsmanlike behaviour with direct impact on the

result/performance of the gymnast/team. The Canadian

Head Judge will warn the offending coach first then if

necessary shall give a Yellow Card and the corresponding

deduction of 0.50 will be taken from the gymnast’s final

score on that event.Vault

Warm-upWarm-up During competition, gymnasts may warm

up on the event apparatus as permitted by the rules as outlined in the Code of Points or in the Code Supplement. Gymnasts may not warm up on other event apparatus. i.e. when warming up for beam, using the floor exercise mat, unless authorized, for a given session, by the Canadian Head Judge (or designate) or the Program Director WAG.

Warm-upWarm-upVault Warm Up: Calculated for the group – includes apparatus preparation.

The maximum warm up time is 50 sec. each, x the number of the gymnasts in the group.

UB - The time permitted for the preparation of the Uneven Bars will not be calculated into the warm-up time allotted per gymnast. Each gymnast will be permitted 30 seconds to warm up on the UB. VICO

BB – 30 seconds each including board placement and preparation. VICO

FX - each 30 seconds (minimum 3 minutes.)

Warm-up The end of the warm up period is

signaled by a gong. If at this time the gymnast is mentally and physically prepared to vault or is still on the apparatus, she may complete the element or sequence started.

When warm-up is over: Following the warm-up period or during

the “competition pause”, the apparatus may be prepared but not used.

Warm-up As per the Code of Points Regulations for

Gymnasts (Page 2): “Warm-Up – Following the warm up period or during the ‘competition pause’, the apparatus may be prepared but not used.” This includes the matting at an event. i.e. saltos on the beam mat while waiting for the green light or signal to begin, are not permitted.

As per the Code of Points Regulations for Gymnasts (Page 2): “She must leave the podium immediately after the conclusion of her exercise”. In Canada this is interpreted as also meaning that gymnasts may not perform a skill(s) as they are leaving the apparatus area. i.e. on beam during the routine gymnast fell on back salto – on leaving the apparatus the coach has gymnast perform element again on the landing mat.

1.2 Responsibilities of the Gymnasts

VICO In case of a lost or forgotten number, the athlete

must obtain a replacement number from the Organizing Committee for the price of $10.00.

Gymnasts are not permitted to wear headbands. The Canadian Head Judge will first warn the gymnast then if necessary shall apply the deduction for incorrect attire.

Body bandages must be beige. The Canadian Head Judge will first warn the gymnast then if necessary shall apply the deduction of 0.30 for incorrect attire.

Gymnasts wearing braces (i.e. knee or elbow) are not required to cover the brace with wrap to make it beige coloured.

No jewelry (bracelets or necklaces) may be worn, except small stud type pierced earring.

A start number supplied by the organizers according to FIG specifications , must be worn.

With approval of her written petition, a gymnast may remove her number in rare cases of backspins on Beam or Floor.

Then the number must be manually displayed by the gymnast or coach immediately before her presentation to the D judges at the beginning of the exercise.

Hip or other padding is not allowed. Hand-grips at UB, body bandages and

wrist wraps are permitted; they must be securely fastened, in good repair and should not detract from the aesthetics of the performance.

The wearing of gymnastics slippers and socks is optional.

1.3 Competition Rules

She must refrain from changing the height of any apparatus except on UB as per Art. 1.1 .

She must present herself in the proper manner (raise up hand/hands) at the start and at the end of her exercise.

She must observe that , at the start of the exercise the light is lit or that the D1 has given a visible conspicuous signal to start her exercise.

1.3 Competition Rules She must begin the exercise within 30

seconds of the green light or signal from the D1.

She has at her disposal 30 seconds after a fall from the UB (timing starts when the gymnast is on her feet after the fall) in which to recuperate, re-chalk, confer with her coach and remount the UB.

After a fall at the BB she has 10 seconds (the timing starts when the gymnast is on her feet after the fall) in which to remount.

1.3 Competition Rules She must leave the podium

immediately after the conclusion of her exercise.

She must refrain from any undisciplined or abusive behaviour.

She must notify the Superior Jury if a necessity arises to leave the competition hall.

Magnesia Usage In the preparation of the UB

reasonable use of magnesia is permitted.

Small markings with magnesia may be placed on the BB

The spreading of magnesia on the floor exercise mat is not allowed.

his/her care on the podium during the warm up period on all apparatus

ART. 2 Regulations for Coaches

Be present on the podium after the green light is lit:

At UB to remove the springboard then spot during the entire exercise

There may be a 2nd person on the podium to remove the board after which he/she must leave immediately

At Beam to remove the springboard (1 coach) after which she/he must immediately leave the podium

To help at all apparatus in case of injuries or defects of the apparatus

Assist and advise the gymnast during the intermediate fall time period from below the podium at UB and BB

Is guaranteed the right to: Coaches have the opportunity to

make an inquiry or submit a protest regarding their gymnast’s D and E Score, as well as the time and line deductions. This inquiry or protest gives the opportunity to the judges to review their work to be sure that the D Score and final score are correct. If warranted, a change will be made. VICO

ARTICLE 4 – REGULATIONS FOR JUDGES

The D Panel’s primary responsibility is to evaluate the maximum content of the exercise.

The E Panel’s primary responsibility is evaluate the execution and artistry faults occurring during the performance of the exercise.

Functions of the D Panel -VICO

The D1 and D2 judges determine the D Score jointly, which will include the Canadian Model. Discussion is allowed including consultation with the E panel judges on the D Score. The D1 and D2 judges must come to an agreement on the D Score. If there is no agreement, the D panel judges will discuss the D Score with the E panel judges. The D Score agreed to by the majority of the D and E panel judges will prevail.

The D2 judge flashes the D Score after the E deductions have been submitted by the E panel judges.

Functions of the D Panel -VICO The D1 judge calculates the average E

deduction and the score. She monitors the work of the secretary/scorer and the flasher. She calculates the average score and the final score and ensures that neutral deductions e.g., time and line are applied. She informs the flasher and ensures the score is flashed before the next gymnast receives the signal to start her vault/exercise for ALL National level categories. She makes the necessary changes on the score sheet following the adjustment of D Score. She informs the Canadian Head Judge of the change.

Functions of the D Panel -VICO

The D1 and D2 must duly record a control score of all exercises for the purpose of evaluation of the E score and to control the total evaluation and final score for each exercise. This is to assure that the gymnast is given the correct score for her performance. D1 and D2 Judges should note the FIG tolerated deviations and use these as a reference for the E Panel scores. (Code of Points – Page 6)

The D2 judge with the D1 judge, applies the sections of the Canadian Models under their responsibility, posts the D Score, ensures that the D Score is seen by the judges on the panel, the coaches, television and the public and monitors the work of the timer(s).

Functions of the D Panel -VICO The D Score is posted until the D1 judge is ready to give

the signal to the next gymnast. The decision to adjust the D Score must be taken by both D judges. A decision to adjust the Final Score due to a modification to the average E deduction must be taken by all the judges on the E panel. Problems and special cases are referred to the Competition Head Judge or to the Canadian Head Judge. No judge is obligated to change her score but reaching an agreement amongst panel members is highly desirable.

The D1 judge is responsible to ensure that the equipment meets the specifications on her apparatus.D2 enters the D score into the computer
