EERE’s Video Standards
• Some of you have asked about preparing your video content for migration into energy.gov.
• EERE’s approach to Section 508 for videos has not changed. Captions and transcripts are still required.
• The only change is that we will be using DOE’s YouTube account for posting EERE’s video files.
• When your website is migrated, your videos will be uploaded to DOE’s YouTube channel and embedded in your Web pages.
• Vimeo will be used only when users need the option to download the video.
5
EERE’s Video Standards
• To post videos on YouTube after your site is migrated:– EERE’s videos will be posted to DOE’s YouTube account– DOE Public Affairs will need these items:
• Video file (Usually MP4 or WMV)• TXT file with the text version• TXT file with the captions
– Once it’s uploaded, you can embed the video in your Web page.
• These requirements apply to everything that is in a video file format: eere.energy.gov/communicationstandards/videos.html.
• If webinar content posted to the Web is in a video format, it must meet EERE’s video standards. We are exploring non-video options for posting webinar content to the Web.

GovDelivery Template Update
• EERE is preparing a new email template for Web content that migrates.
• Goals:⁻ To minimize user
confusion when they click a link from an email and go to the associated website.
⁻ To find a middle ground on changes to the look and feel so that users still associate the email with the list they subscribed to.
13
GovDelivery Template Update
As your migrations occur, we will work with each office to update the existing templates in the system.

Search Optimization
The search optimization best practices in Communication Standards still apply.
• Content Checklist:eere.energy.gov/communicationstandards/content_qa.html
• Optimizing Web pages:eere.energy.gov/communicationstandards/search_optimization.html
• Optimizing PDFs:eere.energy.gov/communicationstandards/pdfs_opt.html
• Optimizing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files:eere.energy.gov/communicationstandards/native.html
20
Search Optimization
Helpful tips for optimization in energy.gov from Alex Cohen:
• Make sure you provide summary text in the CMS for each page. If you don’t, the energy.gov search engine will use the first part of the page in search results, which may cause issues if there are links near the top of the page.
• When you create links to your page on multiple pages, use similar link wording.
• Assume that people come to pages from searches or links (where there is no website context). Look for ways to add context in the body of content.
