2.6 Innovative processes adopted by the institution in Teaching and Learning:
Direct Instruction The Direct instruction strategy is highly teacher-directed and is among
the most commonly used. This strategy includes methods such as lecture, didactic
questioning, explicit teaching, practice and drill and demonstrations. This strategy is also
used for introducing new content, or actively involving students in knowledge
construction. The rule or generalization is presented and then illustrated with examples.
Indirect Instruction In order to foster creativity and the development of interpersonal
skills and abilities among the students, indirect instruction in the form of problem solving,
case studies, concept mapping and assignments are used to complement the direct
instructions.
Experiential Learning Experiential learning both in and outside the classroom is used to
increase understanding and retention of the subject matter. This includes role playing,
dramatisation, surveys, simulations, field trips, field observations, conducting experiments,
games, teaching practice etc.
Independent Study College helps students to grow as independent learners by using wide
range of instructional methods which foster the development of individual student
initiative, self-reliance, and self-improvement. This includes report writing, research
projects, library study, preparing assignments, Internet browsing and making Power-Point
Presentation.
Interactive Instruction/Dialogue Method
Interactive instruction is used to encourage discussion and sharing among the students, provide
learners with opportunities to react to the ideas, experience, insights, and knowledge of the
teacher. The interactive instruction strategy includes total class discussions, small group
discussions, projects, or student pairs or triads working on assignments together, debates,
seminars, workshops, panel discussions, tutorial groups, cooperative learning groups,
brainstorming etc.
• Constructivist Learning
The students are given opportunities to constructs new knowledge from their experiences
in the classroom. The teachers play a role of a facilitator and the students learn from their
own works, strengths, failures, or others' strengths and failures. This component is added
in many academic subjects with revision of two-year curriculum form session 2015-16.
• Team Teaching
It is a common practice to make teams of students with same subject combinations to
teach in a class during their teaching practice. This not only gives them confidence in
teaching but provides help for organising and presenting their lesson in a better way.
• Interdisciplinary approach
Interdisciplinary instructions require the use and integration of methods and analytical
frameworks from more than one academic discipline to examine a theme, issue, question
or topic. Interdisciplinary approach is used in practically all the subjects as the
philosophical and psychological principles are applicable in teaching of various subjects.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes?
IQAC monitors and brings quality in various aspects of evaluation of teaching learning
process. The evaluation procedure is communicated to the students at the beginning of
the year, with regard to evaluation process, internal assessment, mid-term assessment,
term end evaluations and external evaluation the details of which are given in the
prospectus also. The evaluation is continuous and comprehensive. Formative and
summative evaluation form an integral part of evaluation.
House tests are conducted twice during the session. They are based on external
examination pattern. It is compulsory to appear in both the tests and internal assessment
is based on the performance of house tests, class tests, assignments and classroom
interaction in each subject.
Monthly test in all the subjects are mandatory for all the three classes i.e. B.Ed., M.Ed. and
PGDGC. As per university rules students have to secure at least 40% marks in each
examination and in each paper, otherwise they will not be allowed to appear in the final
exams.
The record of the activities (curricular and co-curricular aspects) of each student for the
entire year is entered continuously in the computer which is considered at the time of
internal assessment. Transparency is maintained by displaying marks of each and every
category on the display board. Answer sheets of the term tests are shown to the students
which are followed by the discussion. Their queries regarding their answers, marks and
other mistakes are answered by the teachers. Enough time is given to the students to
analyse their answer sheets. The whole assessment process is computerised. The final
results of the previous sessions are available on the college website.

BEST PRACTICE II
II. Title of the Practice: Contribution of the stakeholders in Quality initiative of the college.
Goals: To continue to involve all the stakeholders in the further quality initiatives of the
college.
The Context:
In the previous few years the college had an experiment of involving some stakeholders in
various developmental activities of the college. The experiment met with a grand success.
Encouraged by the desired success, the college involved some prominent members of all
the stakeholders. Within a short span of a few years, the progress and development of the
college scaled new heights so much so that now this college is considered one of best
Teacher Education Institutions not only in Chandigarh, but is most widely recognized
educational institution in India which was reaccredited with A grade by NAAC in year 2010.
The Practices
(i) Development of intimate relationship with all stakeholders
(a) Relationship with Management
(b) Relationship with Funding Agencies
(c) Relationship with Students
(d) Relationship with Parents
(e) Relationship with Heads of other Colleges
(f) Relationship with Alumni Association Members
(g) Relationship with Community
(ii) Contribution towards Planning, Implementation and Evaluation
All the stakeholders felt their moral duty and pleasure on contributing towards planning,
implementation and evaluation of various developmental activities of the college leading it
to become a model for other such colleges.
The following are the contributions of the stakeholders towards planning, implementation
and evaluation of academic programmes.
Planning:
The student representatives are actively involved in planning of academic
programmes.
The suggestions of parents are considered at the time of academic planning and
reviewed and revised at the end the session.
The parents give valuable suggestions during Parents-Teachers Meet at Maat Pita
Santan Diwas.
The institution has alumni association named “Sangam” which is involved in various
college activities.
Suggestions of other stakeholders are placed before the Principal and staff to plan
the various academic programmes.
Teaching plans and academic calendar are prepared before commencement of
every semester.

Purchase Committee members comprising of Chairman, Principal and concerned
teacher-incharge. The purchase of library books is made under the supervision of
Library Committee.

The Class Teachers maintain academic records and progress of students.
Evaluation:
Teacher evaluates students by conducting internal tests, home assignments and
class assignments.
The students regularly evaluate the teachers using feedback forms.
The feedback is also collected from parents and alumni through interaction on
academic programs.
The opinions of parents and alumni are collected in the parents meet and alumni
meet regarding the academic programmes and infrastructure developments.
(6) Problems Encountered and Resources Required
(i) Mostly the suggestions given in the parents meet and alumni meet were constructive
for institutional growth but sometime, some suggestions offered were either far from
practical utility or absolutely not feasible. Such suggestions were tactfully dealt with by the
college Principal.
(ii) Sometimes, we felt difficulty in visiting certain community service centres in lieu of
revised rules such as Nari Niketan, Missionaries of Charity Mother Teresa Institute, Savera
etc. This problem was overcome by approaching new centres for social service such as
“Humari Kaksha” which is operating at three centres i.e at Sector 7, Manimajra and sector
