1331 Victoria Road
Ameliasburg
This 1890 property, originally a 200 acre
farm, now sits on 17 acres, most of which is
woodland. The property is quite varied. Flat,
tamed, open areas contrast with hilly areas
that remain in their natural state. Behind the
house there is an escarpment where trails
lead to a waterfall spilling over huge steps of
limestone. The water feeds a marsh where 2
small bridges take you over to the barn area.
All of the waterways are environmentally
protected land. Most of the gardens have
been added by the current owners. These
perennial beds have been planned to always
show some blossoms of colour from spring
through to autumn. And one of the best
places to enjoy the view of the gardens is
from a comfy antique chair on the Victorian
veranda, with a teacup in hand of course!

This property of almost one acre is on the
south side with natural slopes down to the
bay. As you come down the driveway, there
are numerous gardens of rose of sharon, lu-
pin and peonies. In the back there is a small
ravine full of ferns, trilliums and many other
natural woodland plants. In the spring, the
wild phlox are beautiful. Take a stroll along
the pathways, enjoy a swing in the oak tree
or simply relax in the gazebo. If you're feeling
energetic, continue down to the dock and
enjoy the view of the beautiful Bay of Quinte.

Our garden has evolved over the years, ac-cording to the physical features of the prop-erty. From the roadside to the water's edge, a gentle slope is broken by a couple of plat-eaus to accommodate the incline, the gar-dener's legs and stamina. It's not a professionally landscaped gar-den, but rather a casual, happy, friendly place, to work, to play, to share, and, hope-fully enjoy with you. Start your stroll at the roadside. You'll first see a 3 metre boulevard of conifers, decidu-ous and flowering trees, bushes, ground cov-er and spring bulbs. Amble across the lawn and look for magnolias, purple sand cherry, apple trees, hydrangeas, yuccas, eurony-mous, roses, echinacea, rudbeckia, vibur-num, grasses, colourful annuals and more. Wander along the garden path at the front of the house, turn the corner and be-hold the sparkling "Bay of Quinte". What a background for more gardens, with mature walnut trees, rhododendrons, dogwood, a vine covered porch, a gazebo, a potted plant patio, and a boat house. A garden, a place to love life and liberty.

The setting for this garden is a William E. Poole designed house in the Williamsburg style, located on a 1½ acre lot overlooking the Bay of Quinte. One of the unique fea-tures of the landscaping is the use of over 20 varieties of deciduous trees, providing out-standing spring flowers and fall colour. Gar-dens of coniferous shrubs, flowering bushes, specimen trees frame the house. Outlying rock gardens infused with over 90 varieties of hostas provide a pleasing blend of green, yellow and white foliage. The owners main-tain the gardens primarily by themselves; it is always a work in progress!
On display will be four vintage cars,
64 Jaguar E Type, 1966 MGB, 1970 Mustang Mach 1 and a 1956 Thunderbird. The owner, is an avid vintage car enthusiast.
