Tony Rice – Kite Maker As part of the NT Government Artist in Residence program, our students were fortunate enough to have International Kite Artist Tony Rice working with and inspiring our students for the past month. They made many different kites but the 'piece de resistance' was designed around the Shield Shrimp found in local clay pans, which collaboratively the students helped paint and construct from tyvek and dowel. The finished length was approximately 18 metres long which made a great gallery in the sky.

Stress
Everyone experiences stress at some point, but there are heaps of simple ways to
minimise its impact on your life. Stress can be mild or intense and can make
people feel frustrated, anxious and even hostile, cause headaches, changes in
appetite and sleep patterns. Stress can also reduce your ability to concentrate and
to remember content of studies. Check out this link

information and tip sheets on exam and study stress, sleeping, starting out, life
choices and careers.

Suggestions to Students (and Parents) wanting good Year 12 results in 2016
It’s time to start planning now (if you haven’t already!)
Look carefully at how many hours of study you need to do… the workload in Year 12 is considerable
If you are working, how many hours of work is sufficient? Always remembering Year 12 is your main work!
Start good study habits now! Use the School’s Homework Centre (every Monday – Thursday from 3-5pm with a bus trip home if necessary) A core message for Year 12 is balance: adequate time for study as well as good sleeping habits, eating well and ensuring time for relaxation and socialising!

A Story for Year 10’s & 11’s to Consider
Once upon a time there were twins named Jimmo and Johnno …. They grew up in Alice …………. In 2016 they
both did Year 12. Now these twins certainly looked alike - in Year 10 they played tricks on their teachers! Both
brothers had part-time jobs; they each had a mobile phone to pay for, lived social lives and liked the idea of buying
their own car. However at the end of Year 11, just after they had selected their subjects, a change occurred.
Jimmo saw he had a dream. He wanted to be an engineer and he realised for this to become true he had to make
sure it happened – it was not just going to happen ‘by itself’. So he started ‘training’……”I need to start while I’m in
Year 11” he’d say. He also started planning for the future….He started saving his weekly earnings and planning for
less work in the coming year……. “I’m not going to let a short term goal get in the way of my long term goal where I
do what I really want to do and earn even more in the future!” Now this is only a story….. What became of Johnno?
Complete your own story of succeeding in Year 12 from Jimmo’s or Johnno’s perspective and email them to
From Left: Mariah Satour, Bec Freshwater (lecturer),

Congratulations to Year 10
students, Mariah Satour,
Yelena Ansell, Jemyl Bosel-
Cross and Reece Anderson
who were part of planning
for a most successful VET
Rural Operations Open Day.

Centralian Senior College &
Wearable Arts 2015
The Araluen Theatre was filled to
capacity for the 2015 Wearable Arts
Awards evening on Saturday 24
October.
It was a colourful extravaganza of
artistry and performance showcasing
local and interstate artists whose
garments were presented with flair and
fun by local models. Centralian Senior
College students and staff were
involved in the event, both as artists,
models and backstage.
Student Erika Hamilton was dressed in
a riot of colour displaying her character
for the evening ‘Senorita Ancestor
Fiesta’ created by admin staff Simone
Guascoine and friend Sarah Hill which
was Highly Commended. Staff
members Karina Fabijan and Rhiannon
Fletcher also commanded the stage in
vivid costumes – Karina wearing a
creation that represented Louisiana
Creole voodoo practitioner ‘Marie
Laveau’ by Victorian artist Judi Bilkey
and Rhiannon a ‘Miss Universe’
designed garment by professional
artist, designer and writer Robyn
Caughlan. Student Molly Killingbeck
used her make-up skills backstage
assisting the models get ready for their
performance.

Alice Outcomes
Welcome to Alice Outcomes news! A lot has been happening here of late. Firstly allow me to introduce myself. I am Malcolm Solomano and have begun work recently at Alice Outcomes after working with another alternative education program in town for the past 2 1/2 years.
I came up here from Victoria, with my family, after working in similar programs down there for some time. We have bought our own home and look forward to working with Alice Outcomes in years to come.
A big thank you to Marg McCartin who has been keeping the program running very efficiently in the last term before I arrived and continues to show much dedication in supporting the students.
In the student group, there have been many young people finishing off subjects. This will allow them to complete their Year 10, 11 and 12 Certificates via the Northern Territory Open Education Centre. (NTOEC). This is a great result as many students are doing this study around other commitments such as looking after their own children or work. Some of this work is part time but others have full time jobs which is a phenomenal effort to gain Certificates. Other students will now transition in to full time employment or are looking at returning to Centralian Senior College for 2016 to continue their education.
We continue to work with students from BushMob. Currently we have students from Ali Curung, Tennant Creek and Darwin. This is a great opportunity for these young people to continue their education whilst they are away from their own school.
The Young Mum's Program has a new Co-ordinator in Briar Fitisemanu. She comes with many years experience in midwifery which will allow much wisdom to be shared for the expectant or young mums in the program. The program has been working with Congress in assisting parents via their Family Partnerships Program (FPP). This has been very successful link up with young parents coming into Alice Outcomes regularly and utilising the kitchen and other facilities.
‘Til next time, Best Wishes, Malcolm Solomano.
