Your Committee Reports

Sunday 14th of October 2018, new members were elected to the

Hello to all our members,
It was great to see a good turnout for
our October AGM and I wish to thank all
members who attended and took an
interest in our Club's affairs.
I am extremely honoured to be the new

outcomes to benefit all of our members.
Our Club will be known as a friendly and
enjoyable place to visit.
Working with the committee we will
endeavour to do our best over the next
12 months and nothing will please us
more than seeing good attendances at
all our functions.

Vice President
This year's AGM has come and gone
and I think everyone will agree that it
was one of our best meetings. We
enjoyed a great feeling of positiveness
and we remain optimistic for the
forthcoming future. I would like to
welcome the newly elected members
to the committee, and I would like to
express my thanks to the outgoing
members for all the hard work. They
have all helped make our Club a great
success.
We are at present spending a great
deal of time writing the Club’s new
constitution that will be presented to
the members before the next half
yearly members meeting. In the
meantime, the festive season is fast
approaching and the entertainment
staff have got a number of exciting
events planned. As you all know, I
spend a lot of time talking to members
and the feeling is that there is a very
good and friendly atmosphere within
the Club. However, this can only be
sustained with your support. The
Thursday Dance Class is going from
strength-to-strength and we are
seeing more new members joining this
event evening. Come along and put
your best foot forward.
The Sunday afternoon Quiz is both a
fun event with raffles and prizes and it
is raising money for the club. Equally
important, the Sunday Quiz is now also
raising money for local charities
including Cancer Research and people
with disabilities. A number of tables (3
& 6) regularly donate their winnings to
the nominated charity the next Quiz,
which is on the 18th November will
raise money for the Leukaemia
Foundation; nominated by Stella
Burma, a long-time member of the
Club and before the Epilepsy Society. If
members wish to nominate a charity,
please give pass the details to us and
come along to support the Quiz. I
would like to close by wishing you all a
wonderful Christmas and a happy and
safe New Year.

Secretary
Hello Austria Club Members,
I welcome this opportunity to write my
first article in the Newsletter as Secretary.
As with all things new, I have found the
role of Secretary quite daunting but at the
same time exciting. I would like to thank
both Kassie McKarres and Tom Lea for
their assistance in the transition. . Due to the way the world is going, the
Club is trying to keep pace with
technology. We have a lot of paper-based
records that need to be uploaded to the
main computer system, in order to
maintain the secure storage of the
information contained in them. This is a
mammoth task, but I am currently
chiselling my way through. I am hoping to
have this finalised over the Christmas
period. The need to do this is not only
ensure the security of the documents, but
also to allow for a smooth transition for
future Committee Members. Having all
the documents stored electronically will
allow authorised access from a location
outside of the Club, which will streamline
the way the Committee Members
communicate with each other.
We have had two meetings now and the
new Committee and I am happy to
report that we are working very well
together. The aim is to keep the
momentum going to ensure that the
governance of the Club meets
Constitutional requirements, whilst at
the same time creating new ways to
increase the number of people who
patronise the Club.
The Sub Committee who are
constructing the new constitution are
making good headway and we are
hoping to have something for the
members to view in the first quarter of
2019.
Try as I might it is very hard to make
administration sound exciting, so I will
close off by saying that I welcome all
manner of questions or suggestions in
relation to the Club and I am looking
forward to a prosperous new year.
Best Regards
Andrew French

Dear Members
The 2017/18 financial year is now closed
and my apologies to those who attended
the AGM, you already know how this
story ends.
The bottom line for the year is the Club
reported a loss of $15,734. The result,
while disappointing on the face of it,
comes with many positives. Compared to
the previous year, we grew total revenue
through, most notably, a 20.7% increase
in total Bar Sales. As has been mentioned
previously, the other significant factor
was the replacement of the roof which
meant there was three-fold increase in
repairs and maintenance.
The Committee has made a concerted
decision to make improvements to the
Club, where required, to improve the
facilities. It goes without saying that a
degree of financial prudence must be
applied to any such decision (and all
financial decisions for that matter) to
preserve the Club's financial position.
Such is the joy of financial reporting that
as the 2018 year fades into the distance,
we are well into the 2019 financial year.
For the three months to September
2018, we have recorded a modest profit
of $4,978. It would be nice to say that
result could be extrapolated for the full
year and completely reverse the loss of
last year.
However very few financial forecasts
come true, so I will reframe from
saying that.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year to all.
Stuart Drake
Trustee
Thank you to all of our members that
attended our AGM and congratulations
to the new Committee Members, who
have been elected to the committee.
We appreciate you giving up some of
your precious time to volunteer as a
Committee Member.
Your Committee has created a
Calendar of Events to accommodate
our various members’ social
preferences. We welcome your input
for future events and if you have a
suggestion for an event, please feel

To all of our members, your ongoing
support is vital to the future our Club.
Your attendance at our varied events is
of great value and we thank you for
that.
