Program Description: The Learning Curve helps with reading (phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension), writing, math (basic math, word problems, algebra) in small classes of 3 students maximum or as few as 1:1. Tutoring is done at the school, library or home. Our instruction is live, not computerized. We can also help with homework.

Qualifications of Staff: We require all our staff to have solid experience working with children and a strong interest in education and child development. Our teachers have a bachelor’s degree or at minimum upper division standing in college with a high GPA. Most of our teachers are pursuing interests in education and are working towards their teaching credential. All The Learning Curve staff working with students must pass background checks and TB clearance requirements.

Curriculum Used: The Learning Curve uses materials from Continental Press (Finish Line Reading, Finish Line Math, California Finish Line Math [CAHSEE]), and School Specialty Publishing (Spectrum Math, Spectrum Writing, Spectrum Reading, and Spectrum Language Arts). For ELD we use material from Steck-Vaughn (ESL: Building English Proficiency).

Demonstrated Effectiveness The Learning Curve students average a gain of +8 to +11 percentage points between their pre- and post-tests (as reported to the California Dept. of Ed. For 2012-14). The test used is the Achieve Test.

Qualifications of Staff: All TutorWorks staff participate in rigorous training to prepare them to meet the academic needs of students. Training is in-house and on-the-job. Staff are continuously observed and assessed for effectiveness. TutorWorks uses a combination of credentialed teachers and para-professional staff.
