Pointing the microphone towards a speaker when you are too close causes a high pitched
noise called feedback. Feedback can also happen when volume of the microphone is too high.
The most common mistake is holding the microphone too close or too far from your mouth.
This results in your singing or speech sounding muffled and distorted, too distant or no vocal
sound at all. A pop filter comes in handy in this situation as to outline your area for optimum
sound. If you don’t have a pop filter. Gradually move the microphone away as you continue to
speak and listen to the effect .The optimum distance for clarity is between the shortest and
furthest points.
Another helpful microphone accessory is the shock mount. A Shock mount is a particular
type of microphone mount in which the microphone is suspended by elastic, and so is partially
isolated from vibrations that might be transmitted to the microphone through the
mic stand, causing unwanted sounds to be added to the output signal, like vibrations and
unwanted disturbances.
Always remember that practice makes perfect. Do not get too close to the microphone,
remain in the optimum distance for clarity. Make sure that your equalizer is adjusted for your
needs and everything should sound just fine.
