    1. Introduction to BOSS

1.1 What is BOSS? BOSS is SMUs Bidding Online System for the registration of courses. BOSS is intended to empower students with the choice of selecting the courses they wish to enroll for in any one term. This choice is not necessarily an easy one. Based on available resources in the form of e-dollars(e$), students will need to make their choice by carefully considering the demand and supply of the courses as well as their academic study plan not just for the current term but also the future terms.

1.2 Important things to note about BOSS Bidding 1.2.1 Before BOSS Bidding rounds

You should know clearly which Elective Term and Round you are bidding for during the current bidding period

Ensure that you have no administration hold placed please go to OASIS > Personal & Finances > Certification/Personal Info > Holds. If there is any holds held against you, do liaise with the relevant offices to have it lifted. Do note that you will not be able to carry out bidding activities if you are on any administrative holds.

1.2.2 During BOSS Bidding rounds Read the instructions carefully in the Plan & Bid tab of the BOSS Bidding system Check that your E-account is allocated 100 e-dollars Please refer to the below guides to successfully add a course, edit a bid, drop a course,

D.I.C.E and more 1.2.3 After BOSS Bidding rounds

Check the overall BOSS results for your bids Confirm that your E-account balance equates to the amount after deducting the sum of

the amount of all successful bids

1.3 Features in BOSS 1.3.1 Timetable Planner Allows you to plan for courses by giving you a calendar view of the planned

sections of the courses you select. Here you would be able to toggle sections on and off and see if the sections that you have chosen clashes with one another in terms of class timings or exam schedules. Personalized class & exam timetable can be downloaded in excel format.

1.3.2 Quick links Redirects students to OASIS where course descriptions and BOSS User Guide is available

1.3.3 Class search Allows students to search available courses by Subject Areas such as Finance, Accounting, and Communication, etc.

    1.4 Terms used in BOSS 1.4.1 E-dollars

Each student will be allocated e-dollars before the start of each bidding cycle. Each student will have e$100.00 each for the current term being bid for. During the bidding exercise, all unused e-dollars will be carried forward to the next bidding round.

1.4.2 DICE Drop If Course Exceeds DICE will be required if you bid for more than the Maximum Enrollment credit units. For example, if the maximum enrollment is 5.0 credit units, and you bid the maximum biddable of 6.0 credit units in this case, you are required to indicate a DICE value to a section that you wish to drop if all 5 bids are successful.
