FILM 5's from the past 20 years to be featured as part of CBC Summer Shorts

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the FILM 5 program, AFCOOP has partnered with the Atlantic FilmFestival and the CBC to present 11 outstanding FILM 5 films as part of the Outdoor Film Experience. TheFILM 5 shorts will screen before Outdoor Film Experience feature films at various outdoor locations in the HRMthroughout the summer. This initiative is a partnership with AFF and CBC called CBC Summer Shorts.

Centered at SFU Woodward's downtown campus , ISEA2015’s programming will overflow to venues acrossMetro Vancouver. Partners include local artistic organisations and venues such as the Vancouver Art Gallery,Western Front, VIVO, the Museum of Vancouver, Grunt Gallery, Vancouver New Music, 221A, New WestminsterNew Media Gallery, Fortune Sound Club, the New Forms Festival, and more.

ISEA2015 will explore subthemes around the potential of electronic arts to reach out into the world and effectgenuine change. AFCOOP’s filmmaking grants support the production of local independent films through in-­kind equipment andresources. There are grants that are open to the public as well as some that are only open to AFCOOP FullMembers.

Feedback Loop A chance to get feedback about your project for your choice of expert.

The grant includes:

3 x 1hr mentorship meetings with your choice of an experienced screenwriter, director, producer, editor

or cinematographer.

These meetings are meant for you to gain feedback on your project. Mentors will be selected from senior

AFCOOP members and the community based on the nature of your project.

Celluloid Creation Grant The Celluloid Creation Grant provides you with resources and support to make a film-­based project shot or

finished (or both!) on Super-­8, 16mm or 35mm film.

The grant includes:

$2,000 in kind equipment(film cameras, lights, etc. valued at commercial rates)

$250cash towards film stock,processing, shipping and transfer

Up to 3000ft of film from the AFCOOP film freezer (35mm, 16mm) (colour or b&w) based on availability

For: AFCOOP Full Members.

Up to 1 per deadline

Independent Filmmakers Grant The Independent Filmmakers Grant provides equipment and resources to make a digital-­based project.

The grant includes:

$2,000 in kind equipment rental (C300 camera, sound recording equipment, lighting etc. valued at

commercial rates)

$250 cash towards your production costs (crew, cast, art dept. food, etc.)

For: AFCOOP Full Members.

Equipment must be used by a qualified operator. In order to be cleared on this gear you (or you operator) need

to have either taken a workshop on it or prove your competency to the Technical Coordinator in advance of

your booking.

Post-­Production Grant AFCOOP has a full service post-­production suite. This is your chance to use it for your next project.

Includes:

FUSION HALIFAX 48 HOUR FILM COMPETITION – AUG 21ST – 23RD, 2015 Are you a professional movie maker that has always wanted to let loose on a fun weekend project? Never madea movie, but always wanted to try? All the more reason to compete in the 4th annual 48 Hour Film Competition– the ultimate film making challenge! From August 21-­23, registered teams will hit the streets to create a 5-­8minute short film in only 48 hours. Each team will have to write, shoot, edit and deliver a movie over thecourse of one weekend.

Kick-­off is from 6:30pm-­7pm on Friday, August 21st at the AFCOOP office. Completed films must be submittedbetween 5pm-­7pm on August 23rd at AFCOOP. Teams must provide a line of dialogue, a location, a prop, their$25 registration fee, and their registration documents which can be found below. Everything must be dropped

Twice a year, CFAT’s Local Artist-­In-­Residence Program provides an opportunity for a local media artist todevelop a new work involving audio, video, or new media. In exchange, the LAIR is expected to present theirwork, teach workshops, and meet with the local community.

The successful applicant will receive:

• Over $1000 of in-­kind support in the form of Production and Editing memberships, access to facilities andequipment • $1700 artist fee • $300 speaker fee for conducting a talk or workshop for the community about their project• Access totechnical assistance during the residency

The National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) is pleased to announce a new, one year, $200,000 partnership with Shaw

Media.

This agreement sees the return of the $1,000 Shaw Media Fearless Female Director award in the NSI Online Short Film

Festival and a brand new course, the Shaw Media Diverse TV Director program, which will launch in early March. The

course is designed for participants with directing experience who are interested in directing scripted television.

The Shaw Media Fearless Female Director award is presented to the best film by a female director four times a year.

Recent winners include Ashley McKenzie, Emily Jenkins and Lindsay MacKay.

Shaw Media Diverse TV Director

This course provides female, Aboriginal and visible minority directors ready to make the leap to TV series direction with

development training and job shadowing for up to four participants. The program includes an intense bootcamp in

Toronto and a four-­week director job shadowing experience on the set of a series in production.

Assist Canadian Talent) jury for the production of short form documentary projects. Selected projects will be

To further develop critical art writing in this region, Visual Arts News will host a Writer-­in-­Residence in

partnership with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS). The residency will be open to emerging critical writers

critics.

The successful applicant will hone writing and editing skills while learning production procedures at Visual Arts

News and the AGNS Journal. This introduction to art-­magazine publishing and writing is intended to foster new

editorial and critical talent.

Working closely with the Visual Arts News Editorial committee and mentorship from our Editor and the curators

at the AGNS, the writer will receive valuable experience in writing about art, magazine publishing, art criticism

and social media management. There will also be opportunities to meet with guest mentors involved in

Canadian art publishing who will be visiting Halifax in the fall 2015.

The Writer-­in Residence can explore art writing in a multitude of ways. They will have a space for writing and

access to the Resource Library at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia including archive materials. They will also

receive guide training at the AGNS which will give them access to artists and curators and learn an investigative

approach to exploring exhibitions.

The WIR will attend editorial committee meetings;; write online content (3 posts minimum);; manage social

media and publish one article for print publication for Visual Arts News and one for the AGNS Journal. They will

also have the opportunity to conduct independent research and develop other art writing.

The WIR will receive an honorarium of $3000 and will devote 15 hours a week to the residency over 4-­months.

A jury comprised of professionals in the industry will choose eight Canadian women directors. Selected

participants will be mid-­career directors. Applicants should have previous experience "directing shorts, docs,

web series or other micro-­budget screen projects." WIDC: Story & Leadership is the right fit for those "seeking

to sharpen or refresh certain skill areas, polishing stories and/or broaden professional connections."

Special mention is made for women looking to crossover into directing from different branches of the business,

such as actors, ADs, editors and producers. Transferable directing skills will be considered a valued asset in

The Residency for Canadian Artists will take place from October 1, 2015 to January 31, 2016. The goal for thisfour-­month Canadian Artist Residency is to emerge with a finished work.

The Residency for International Artists will take place from November 1 to November 30, 2015. The goal forthis one-­month International Artist Residency is to experiment with the resources at the TAIS Production Centreto advance or complete a work.

media practices in an innovative, interdisciplinary and changing environment where traditional techniques and

methods are incorporated with advanced technologies, and new perspectives reflect a myriad of current

practices in the field.

The Studio Technician is responsible for delivering technical instruction in film, video, sound and lighting

production to undergraduate and graduate students. They assist students in developing and articulating

technical skills and problem solving, while demonstrating the safe and appropriate use and application of

equipment, tools, materials, techniques and processes. They oversee and maintain the area production studios,

computer work spaces, tools and equipment that support curriculum.

The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge and working experience with lighting and sound

production equipment and camera technology, both in digital and analog (16mm) along with film and video

production experience. A good knowledge of Macintosh operating systems, computer hardware, and post-­

production software such as FCP and ProTools is required.

We are looking for an individual who is motivated and enthusiastic, who has the ability to engage dynamically

with students, and is interested in developing a progressive approach to technical instruction. Excellent

organizational and communication skills, and ability to remain up to date with developments within digital

technology are key attributes required for this role.

This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of Emily Carr University’s unique academic and technical

community, and to contribute to the growth of one of our dynamic program areas.
