Come then, O Holy Christ, feed us, we pray; touch with thy pierced hand each common day, making this earthly life of thy grace, till in the home of heav’n we find our place.” THE SERVING OF THE BREAD (Deacons will stand) “O sacred head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down, now scornfully surrounded with thorns, thine only crown; how pale thou are with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn! How does that visage languish which once was brought as morn! What language shall I borrow to thank thee, dearest friend, for this thy dying sorrow, thy pity without end? O make me thine forever, and should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to thee.” THE PERIOD OF MEDITATION (Please hold bread until close of meditation and partake when Pastor does) “Where can we find thee, Lord, so near, so real, so gracious, so divine, as at the table set with love by those who know themselves as thine?” “TAKE, EAT: THIS IS MY BODY” THE FRUIT OF THE VINE IS BLESSED (Congregation pray silently) “Alas, and did my Savior bleed and did my sov’reign die? Would He devote that sacred head for sinners such as I? But drops of grief can ne’er repay the debt of love I owe; here, Lord, I give myself away, ‘tis all that I can do.” THE PASSING OF THE CUP (Deacons will stand) “Up Calvary’s Mountain one dreadful morn, walked Christ my Savior, weary and worn; facing for sinners death on the cross, that He might save them from endless loss. Blessed Redeemer! Precious Redeemer! Seems now I see Him on Calvary’s tree; wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading blind and unheeding dying for me!”

REMEMBER

Not a word will be spoken during the Lord’s Supper Service. The only intended sound will be the

organ as it portrays the life and death of our Savior through the strains of meaningful hymns.

ORGAN PRELUDE Arr. Douglas

“In Remembrance”

THE PROCESSIONAL OF PASTOR AND DEACONS

“Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne; Hark! how the Heav’nly anthem drowns all music but its own: awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee, and hail Him as the matchless King thro’ all eternity.”

THE LIGHTING OF THE CANDLES “The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin, the light of the world is Jesus; like sunshine at noon-day His glory shone in, the light of the world is Jesus. Come to the light, ‘tis shining for thee; sweetly the light has dawned upon me, once I was blind, but now I can see: the light of the world is Jesus.”

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”

THE PERIOD OF MEDITATION MEDITATE UPON THE FACT OF THE CRADLE

HIS WONDERFUL BIRTH

“Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head; the stars in the sky looked down where He lay, the little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask thee to stay close by me forever, and love me, I pray: bless all the dear children in thy tender care, and fit us for Heaven to live with thee there.”

MEDITATE UPON THE FACT OF THE CROSS

HIS ATONING DEATH

“I saw the cross of Jesus, when burdened with my sin; I sought the cross of Jesus, to give me peace within; I brought my soul to Jesus, He cleansed it in His Blood; and in the cross of Jesus I found my peace with God.”

THE REMOVAL OF THE CLOTH

“When I survey the wondrous cross, on which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride. See, from His head, His hands, His feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down; did e’er such love and sorrow meet or thorns compose so rich a crown.”

SCRIPTURE (To be read in silence)

“The Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, take, eat: this is My body, which is broken for you, This do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also He took the cup saying, this cup is the New Testament in My blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death ‘til He come.”

THE BREAD BLESSED AND BROKEN (Congregation pray silently)

“Here at thy table, Lord, this sacred hour, O let us feel thee near, in loving power; calling our thoughts away from self and sin, as to thy banquet hall we enter in. Come then, O Holy Christ, feed us, we pray; touch with thy pierced hand each common day, making this earthly life of thy grace, till in the home of heav’n we find our place.”

THE SERVING OF THE BREAD (Deacons will stand)

“O sacred head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down, now scornfully surrounded with thorns, thine only crown; how pale thou are with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn! How does that visage languish which once was brought as morn! What language shall I borrow to thank thee, dearest friend, for this thy dying sorrow, thy pity without end? O make me thine forever, and should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to thee.”

THE PERIOD OF MEDITATION (Please hold bread until close of meditation and partake when Pastor does)

“Where can we find thee, Lord, so near, so real, so gracious, so divine, as at the table set with love by those who know themselves as thine?”

“TAKE, EAT: THIS IS MY BODY”

THE FRUIT OF THE VINE IS BLESSED (Congregation pray silently)

“Alas, and did my Savior bleed and did my sov’reign die? Would He devote that sacred head for sinners such as I? But drops of grief can ne’er repay the debt of love I owe; here, Lord, I give myself away, ‘tis all that I can do.”

THE PASSING OF THE CUP (Deacons will stand)

“Up Calvary’s Mountain one dreadful morn, walked Christ my Savior, weary and worn; facing for sinners death on the cross, that He might save them from endless loss. Blessed Redeemer! Precious Redeemer! Seems now I see Him on Calvary’s tree; wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading – blind and unheeding – dying for me!”

THE PERIOD OF MEDITATION

(Please hold cup until close of meditation and partake when Pastor does)

“On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame; and I love that old cross where the dearest and best for a world of lost sinners was slain. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it someday for a crown.”

“DRINK YE ALL OF IT”

THE COVERING OF THE ELEMENTS

“Upon that cross of Jesus mine eyes at times can see the very dying form of one who suffered there for me; and from my smitten heart with tears two wonders I confess, the wonders of His glorious love and my unworthiness.”

THE PERIOD OF MEDITATION

(Congregation pray silently)

“King of my life, I crown thee now, thine shall the glory be; lest I forget thy thorn-crossed brow, lead me to Calvary. Lest I forget Gethsemane; lest I forget thine agony; lest I forget thy love for me, lead me to Calvary. May I be willing, Lord, to bear daily my cross for thee; even thy cup of grief to share, thou has borne all for me. Lest I forget Gethsemane; lest I forget thine agony; lest I forget thy love for me, lead me to Calvary.”

THE MOMENT OF ADORATION

(Tell Him that you love Him)

“His name is wonderful, His name is wonderful, His name is wonderful, Jesus, my Lord; He is the mighty King, master of everything, His name is wonderful, Jesus, my Lord. He’s the great shepherd, the rock of all ages, Almighty God is He; bow down before Him, love and adore Him, His name is wonderful, Jesus, my Lord. He’s the great shepherd, the rock of all ages, Almighty God is He; bow down before Him, love and adore Him, his name is wonderful, Jesus, my Lord.”

THE RECESSIONAL OF PASTOR AND DEACONS

“Crown Him the Lord of life, who triumphed o’er the grave, and rose victorious in the strife for those He came to save; His glories now we sing, who died and rose on high, who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.”

(Congregation will recess quietly after the Pastor and Deacons have retired. Please leave quietly, refraining from talking until after you have left the church sanctuary.)
