Which skills are needed when choosing Business Studies?

Basic calculations: only plus, minus, times, division

Calculators can be used.

Able to read and reply to short answer questions in English.

Business studies helps you make the best commercial decisions.

It can be combined with all subjects (except Accounting)

Examples:

• Business + Geography = pilot/captain

• Business + Home Economics= ITS, hotel management

• Business + Engineering Technology = ability to serve customers who have problems in the area of engineering technology, ability to work within or manage an organisation providing this service

• Business + Social Studies = work with EU institutions, police, United Nations, Parliament

• Business + Art = Create your own artistic product for sale, business of renovation and restoration

• Business + Graphical Communication: Insurance surveyors interpreting sketches of car accidents, woodworker or draughtsman or architect with knowledge of how to manage your own workshop/office.

Other examples :

• Business + Physical Education = organising sports activities, coaching, teambuilding and management, set up your own gym business

• Business + Computer Studies = Work in a computer business

• Business + Languages = Work in foreign companies or Maltese companies owned by foreigners, work in EU

• Business + History = Work with Malta Tourism Authority, Din l-Art Helwa, Tourist Guide, ability to organise tours

• Business + Textiles Studies= work in clothes shops (retail) advertising, marketing

• Business + European Studies= Work related to European Union, embassies of countries within EU

• Business + Music= organising musical concerts, issuing and marketing new songs, work in music shops

• Business + Health and Social Care = Customer care in the health sector, managing

• Business + Design and Technology = Designing, producing, marketing and selling a product.

After obtaining Business Studies O level one may:

• Continue with A level Marketing, Accounting or Economics at Higher Secondary Naxxar, Junior College Msida, Church schools or independent schools.

• Follow a course at MCAST – Institute of Business and Commerce or Maritime Institute

• Follow a course at ITS

• Find a job

• Start your own business
