    Week 2Colour Mixing

    Introduce painting procedures and mixing techniques. Revise the 3 PrimaryColours. Children mix 2 Primary colours to make their Secondary colours- talk aboutsecondary and what it means- Make colour wheelshttp://arts.k12.hi.us/07grade1/07Grade1_Lesson_ColorWheel.htm

    Week 3ScratchedPatterns

    Introduce activities for early finishers.Colour whole page brightly, using oil pastels. Cover with black/blue paint.Scratch out to reveal colour underneath using variety of implements. Discuss varietyof line effects possible with each implement.

    Week 4&5All AboutMe

    Positive Self Portraits using text and Primary colours in worksLook at the work of Roy LichtensteinLook at the way words could be used in conjunction with an image and his use of theprimary colors. Students each write their name at the top of a piece of paper. All thepapers are passed around the room and each student writes one positive words abouteach other student as the papers were passed. . They choose their favorite word andused that when creating their Pop Art self portrait

    Week 6KandinskysCircles

    Students looked at the work of Vassily Kandinsky, especially his concentric circlepaintings. They then created their own circle drawing using oil pastels. The finisheddrawings can be hung individually, or all together to create a giant Kandinsky mural!

    Week 7Its ok to bedifferent

    Elmer the Elephant-Read the book "Elmer the Elephant". At the end of the story all the elephants proclaim

    that they love Elmer just the way he is and they want to celebrate him by having a paradein his honor and having everyone dressing up in patchwork colors like him. Student got achance to create their own Elmer inspired elephant using tissue paper and glue. Usecollage techniques to stick the tissue paper to a large piece of white paper. Then theydraw their own elephant and cut it out. Make a parade wall hanging

    Week 8Watercolour

    trees

    Create oil pastel and watercolor paintings by drawing the letter "Y" as the branches of a

    tree to create the effect of a tree. Encourage students to look at lines in theenvironment-discuss the vocabulary of lines

    Week 9AutumnLeaves

    Using crepe paper, children cut multiple leaf shapes out. Cover and glue withPVA. Apply blue and red paint wash to change leaf colours. Rub over with crayons.Discuss colour changes.

    All art sessions will begin with a structured 5- 10 minute drawing activity to build upa folio of drawings

    Learning Objectives and skills-

    To teach students about observational drawing, and not just drawing what they "think" they see.

    Experimentation with a variety of materials and techniques

    Extending colour, line and shape vocabulary
