School Census – New Data
Childcare
The DfE state: Definition of 'childcare' is a regular offer of childcare or supervised care
of a child. The offer is reliable and would enable parents or carers to work and would normally be paid for by parents or carers.
Schools who offer pupils ‘breakfast’ before school starts do offer ‘before school’ childcare – this includes secondary age pupils who buy breakfast before school starts. Though we would normally expect childcare to be paid for by the parents we are aware that some schools offer a free service.
School sports and activity clubs are classified as ‘extra-curricular’ activities and therefore should not be record as ‘after school childcare’.
School Census – New Data
It is intended that for future census collections this information will be completed within the School Details area and so collected automatically without need for further data entry.
The Summer 2015 return will collect this using a new panel
School Census – New Data
A school can indicate up to four types of childcare Before School Childcare (B) After School Childcare (A) Holiday Childcare (H) Under Five Childcare (U)
A school can indicate up to three different sites for childcare On Site Off Site, Signposted Off Site, Not Signposted
NOTE: If Off site, signposted or Off site, not signposted is selected, no other details are required. Click the Save button to return to the Census Return Details page.

Key Stage 1
Key Stage 2
User Defined Groups
End of Key Stage tests and assessments are generally performed by specific year groups however this is not always the case.
If there are pupils from other year groups being included it is easier to create a User Defined Group so that one Marksheet can be created for that group.
You may also find it easier to create a group for those Year 2 pupils who are being re-assessed for the Phonics test.
User Defined Groups
User Defined Groups
Enter a Group Description, Short Name and Active State
User Defined Group
In the Membership panel click on Action and select Add Student
User Defined Group
As this group is for those taking the end of KS1 the Year Group filter has been set before clicking the Search button
Those pupils to be selected have been highlighted – then click OK

One member of Year 1 will also be added to the group

Key Stage Wizards are provided for…
EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage)
All early years providers must complete an EYFS profile for each child in the final term of the year in which they turn 5. For most children this is the reception year in primary school.
The main purpose is to provide an accurate assessment of individual children at the end of the EYFS. The profile describes each child’s attainment against 17 early learning goals, together with a short narrative about their learning characteristics.
EYFS Wizard Highlights
One marksheet containing 17 assessments.
Reporting for parents includes:
EYFS Profile Pupil Report
EYFS Profile School Report
EYFS Profile National Report
EYFS Wizard Highlights
There are entry columns (white)
And formula columns (grey)
Enter data in the entry columns and click Save
Where data is missing this will show in the Data Check column
Key Stage Wizards are provided for…
Year 1 & 2 Phonics
The check will take place in June when a pupil will read 40 words out loud to a teacher. The teacher will assess whether he or she needs extra help with reading. If the pupil doesn’t do well enough in the check they’ll have to do it again in Year 2.
Year 1 Phonics Highlights
One marksheet – see later slide

associated to the mark.
A, D or L can be entered prior to this date
Year 1 Phonics Highlights
Stage 2:As an example it has been assumed that the DfE has stated
that the threshold will be 33 so the
Threshold Score column now has that
value entered. As soon as the
marksheet is saved the relevant grade will
then appear in the Grade column.
Year 2 Phonics Highlights
Essentially the same as Year 1 but now includes
the previous year. Calculating shows those
pupils who need to retake the test with !
Key Stage 1 Highlights
End of Key Stage 1
All pupils moving on to the KS2 programmes of study in the next school year are regarded as being in the final year of KS1. Most of these pupils will be in year 2 and will reach the age of 7 by the end of the school year.
Key Stage 1 SATs consist of formal assessments in maths, reading and writing plus informal assessments in science that take place throughout the year.
Key Stage 1 includes a marksheet for ‘P Scales’. These should be completed for pupils who are working below level 1 (W).
Key Stage 1 Highlights
Complete the highlighted marksheets A & B. Marksheets
C, D & E are not mandatory
Key Stage 1 Highlights
Complete a value for each white cell
The Missing Entry Check will be triggered by any missing results
Formula cells will be populated
when you Calculate or Save

will be needed in the P Scales
marksheet (B)
Key Stage 1 Highlights
B. P Scale Data Entry A value is required in each cell following a W which
has been brought through from marksheet A
Key Stage 2 Highlights
End of Key Stage 2
All Year 6 children are required to take externally-set assessments in English and maths.
Although there are no formal science SATs for all, ‘science sampling’ was reintroduced in 2014. Under this system, 9,500 children – five children from 1,500 schools – are randomly selected to take a science test. Schools that are selected will be notified by mid-May, and are legally obliged to participate if chosen.
Other subjects, including English writing, speaking and listening, are assessed by teachers rather than by children taking a formal written test.
KS2 also has a marksheet for ‘P scales’
Key Stage 2 Highlights
8 Marksheets
Reporting to Parents:
KS2 P1 Student England
KS2 P2 Comparative England
KS2 P3 Comp TAs by Gender England
KS2 P4 Comp Tests by Gender England
Key Stage 2 Highlights
Marksheets A & C are completed in the same way as those for KS1
Marksheet D is completed with
test results when these are
received (electronically
in theory)
Key Stage 2 Highlights
This marksheet for KS2 test results is a good example of one where some columns
are numbers in a range and not a grade therefore the
grade selector is not available
Key Stage 3 Highlights
No longer collected centrally but available for schools who wish to take advantage of the reporting:
7 marksheets including ‘P scales’ and a broadsheet review
