DRESS CODE• Class dress encourages unity and discipline.• Females must wear pink tights and pink ballet shoes.• Males must wear dark black shorts or black leggings, white t-shirt (plain), white socks, and black ballet shoes.

UIYB LEOTARD COLORS FOR 2015 BALLET PROGRAMUIYB will require our students to purchase the following leotards/colors from National Dance Academy. Both locations of NDA will supply class leotards for our program. We have carefully chosen the most appropriate style for class study and ask that you adhere to the color and style for your dancer’s level.

• All Dancers must have hair pulled back from the face, and ballet students must wear hair in a bun. No excess jewelry is allowed in class.

CANCELLATIONS & ABSENCESClasses with fewer than four students may be cancelled. Classes cancelled due to weather will not be made up. If public schools are cancelled Youth Ballet will also cancel classes. If in question, please call the office as a cancellation notice will be placed on the office phone by 3:00 weekdays and 8:00 am Saturday. Classes missed due to personal illness may be made up at the discretion of the instructor and if space allows. Make-up classes are limited to two per semester.

YOUTH BALLET MISSION STATEMENTThe University of Iowa Youth Ballet and School of Dance is dedicated to enriching the lives of all our students by encouraging and nurturing artistic expression regardless of natural ability. We are dedicated to building strong and well rounded dancers through classical ballet training. Our commitment is to provide excellent and challenging classes for each level in our program. FACULTY Autumn Eckman (AE) is currently pursuing an MFA in Choreography (Teaching Assistantship) at The University of Iowa. Her performance credits include: Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, State Street Ballet, Luna Negra Dance Theater, Ron De Jesus Dance, The Cambrians, and Giordano Dance Chicago where she also served as Resident Choreographer and Assistant Artistic Director. Ms. Eckman choreographs for companies, universities and schools nationwide and was an Instructor of Dance at Northern Illinois University from 2009-2015.

Anna Elizabeth Fiore (AF) comes to the Youth Ballet after dancing with Ballet Quad Cities II and studying dance and language at UNC Charlotte. Currently she is finishing her myriad of undergraduate studies in Communication, Dance, and Pre-Physical Therapy at The University of Iowa. She plans to pursue her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in the spring of 2016.

Dana Powers-Klooster (DPK) received her MFA with an emphasis in performance from the University of Iowa in 2014, where she was honored to be the recipient of the Iowa Arts Fellowship, and her BA in Dance and Spanish Area Studies from Kenyon College in 2006, cum laude. Throughout her graduate studies Dana taught both ballet and modern dance technique at the University. Currently Dana teaches for the University of Iowa Youth Ballet and serves as a guest instructor for the University’s Dance Department.

Erin Corcoran (EC) is a senior at the University of Iowa pursuing her BFA in Dance and BS in Health and Human Physiology- Exercise Science. Erin has been trained in a variety of styles, and has previously taught ballet at Vaughan Dance Academy . She has performed with Kayle and Co., The Kate Jablonski Statement, Von Heidecke Ballet, and has been fortunate enough to dance in multiple performances at the University of Iowa.

Emily Medd (EM) is an Iowa City native, Emily is a senior BFA dance student at the University of Iowa. She has a great passion for teaching yoga and dance. This past year she was a member of Dancers in Company at The University of Iowa. Emily has studied yoga for four

years and recently completed her 200 hour yoga certification through the Yoga Connection with Charlotte Adams.

Jason Schadt (JS) is the Artistic Director of the University of Iowa Youth Ballet and Instructor at the University of Northern Iowa. He earned his M.F.A. in Dance from the University of Iowa in 2008 and has taught at the UI Youth Ballet since 2006. Jason’s research focuses on the mechanics of movement and injury prevention and he frequently designs and instructs university courses that complement these emphases such as floor barre, yoga, and experiential anatomy. Jason has completed teacher education with John White in the Vaganova syllabus (grades 1-3) as well as teachers workshops at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the Northwest Dance Intensive. jasonschadt.com.

Kristin Marrs (KM) is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. She performed classical and contemporary roles as a company member of Columbus Dance Theater, AROVA Contemporary Ballet, Northern Ballet Theatre, Paradise Ballet Theatre, Ballet Quad Cities, Opera Columbus and Images of Dance. Ms. Marrs trained at SUNY Purchase and London Studio Centre and holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Iowa. Currently a Lecturer in the U of I Department of Dance, she has also taught ballet technique at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Columbus Dane Theatre Intensive Training Program, and as a guest artist at Shenyung Conservatory in Shenyung, China. She joined the Youth Ballet faculty in 2013.

Kathryn Smith (KPS) UIYB Administrative Director. MFA, BFA. Certified in Vaganova Ballet Pedagogy levels 1-3 and with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet teachers course.

Leanna Mullen (LM) is pursuing a degree in Dance as well as a Performing Arts Entrepreneurship Certificate. She received her training and taught classes for many years at the Robert Thomas Dance Center in Ames, IA. She thoroughly enjoys taking master classes at the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago each summer. Leanna is assisting in ballet levels 2a and 3.
