Practical TheoryKersten Geers (Ghent, 1975) and David Van Severen (Ghent, 1978) studied architecture at the University of Ghent and at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM). Upon graduating they founded Office in 2002, based in Brussels today, from where they make compatible architectural practice, research, and teaching, in a creative process that blurs the boundaries between prac-tice and theory. Winners of the Belgian Prize for Architecture in several editions and of the Silver Lion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2010, in their projects – from furniture design to urban planning – they exploit the potential of geometry, prioritizing the simplicity of forms over gesture in their search for spatial richness.

OFFICETras finalizar sus estudios en la Universidad de Gante y en la ETSA de Madrid, los ganteses Kersten Geers (1975) y David Van Severen (1978) fundaron en 2002 Office, actualmente con sede en Bruselas, desde donde compagi-nan investigación, docencia y producción arqui-tectónica, en un proceso creativo que difumina los límites entre práctica y teoría. Ganadores del Premio Nacional de Arquitectura de Bélgica en varias ediciones y del León de Plata de la Bienal de Venecia en 2010, en sus proyectos —desde el diseño de mobiliario hasta la planifi-cación urbana—, aprovechan el potencial de la geometría primando la sencillez de formas sobre el gesto en la búsqueda de la riqueza espacial.

New Munch MuseumThe New Munch Museum is located next to the Opera House by Snøhetta, on the shores of the Oslo Fjord. This work of the Madrid studio of Juan Herreros won the international competition convened in 2009 to replace the previous gallery of the Norwegian artist – inaugurated in 1963 and five times smaller. The building is divided into two differentiated parts in terms of program and material: one is built with a metallic structure and the other with concrete, and both are wrapped in an undulating skin of translucent and perforated aluminum. The construction’s area is 26,313 m² and its height 58 meters, with thirteen floors and eleven exhibition halls. The museum will open its doors to the public in June 2020.

Estudio Herreros en OsloA orillas del fiordo, junto a la Ópera diseñada por Snøhetta, se sitúa el Nuevo Museo Munch que construye el equipo del madrileño Juan Herreros, quien en 2009 ganó el concurso internacional para sustituir la anterior pinacote-ca del célebre artista noruego —inaugurada en 1963 y cinco veces más pequeña—. El edificio se divide en dos partes diferenciadas a nivel programático y material: una se resuelve con estructura metálica y la otra con hormigón, que-dando ambas envueltas en una piel ondulada de aluminio translúcido y perforado. Con una altura de 58m y 26.313 m² de superficie, trece plantas y once salas expositivas, el museo abrirá sus puertas al público en junio de 2020.

The final design for the Vancouver Art Gallery – the first Canadian work of the Swiss studio – has been unveiled. The new project maintains the stacked form of the original proposal, but the wood cladding has been replaced with vertical glass cylinders.
