EXAMPLES AND HISTORY OF HFC EQUIPMENT IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

• All A/C equipment sold and installed in Bosnia and Herzegovina that uses refrigerants (split systems, chillers) is imported, only some auxiliary components such as ducts, piping and vents are produced locally.

• Most of this equipment is supplied by large, globally leading manufacturers of HVAC equipment such as YORK, TRANE, CARRIER, McQUAY.

• Other low cost brands are also present in the market but mostly for split systems. Bosnia and Herzegovina, as an Article 5 country of the Montreal Protocol, was obligated to stop using CFCs by January 1st, 2010 and replace them with HCFCs.

• However, these companies have started much earlier than required to supply HCFC and even HFC equipment to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

• The main reason is that the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina is small so they deliver the equipment according to EU requirements (non-A5) even though they are not required to do so.

Herzegovina

A/C SPLIT SYSTEMS

• For the period 1997-2004, – employed exclusively R22 and approximately 3000 units were

sold in BiH.

• For the period 2005-2009, – employed R407c and approximately 3500 units were sold in BiH.

• For 2010– plans to sell around 400 split systems with HFCs (R407c and

R410a).

LARGE A/C SYSTEMS

– For the period 1997-2000, • employed exclusively R22 and approximately 40 units were

sold in BiH

– For the period 2000-2004 • employed R407c and approximately 60 units were sold in BiH

– For the period 2004-2009, YORK A/C • chillers with cooling capacity under 150 kW employed R407c• units above 150 kW employed R134a and approximately 80

units were sold in BiH

• According to the available information, in Sarajevo there was very little usage of CFCs in A/C equipment since the end of the war in 1995,– only HCFC and later HFC equipment has been installed.

• The equipment sold in the rest of the Federation of BiH used the same refrigerants.

• Sarajevo market is estimated at 1500 small split system annually and 20-50 large systems annually.

• YORK and LG equipment cover about 70% of the Sarajevo market, and rest of market are covered with McQuay, Ciat, Trane, Daikin, Carrier and low cost brands.

• Sarajevo market represents about 50% of the market in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina
