CLASSES ANY ITEM ENTERED IN THE FOLLOWING CLASSES MUST INCLUDE HOT FORGED TECHNIQUE AND MUST BE FORGED PREDOMINANTLY FROM IRON AND STEEL

Class WI 1 Any item suitable for display in/around the home, a Stone Fireplace to be

the focus, and which has the following dimensions EXTERNAL - H 1320mm W 1560mm D 210mm INTERNAL - H 900mm W 915mm

An image of the stone fireplace supplied by Bruton Stone Masons can be found at the end of this schedule. The class is anticipated to be diverse with the hope that a wide range of artistic and household items, which must incorporate forging techniques, will make up the entries.

Class WI 2 Any item, any size, for EXTERIOR use, must incorporate forging

techniques. Class WI 3 LIVE BLACKSMITHING. Produce any item within the timescale of

90 minutes.

Materials optional, to be provided by the competitor, wooden shafts are permitted. NO STRIKER ALLOWED. Competition to be held daily from Thursday to Saturday and judged on the Saturday of the Show.

Class WI 4 LIVE BLACKSMITHING, Produce something saleable within the timescale

of 20 minutes. Materials optional, to be provided by the competitors. Competition to be held

daily from Thursday to Saturday and judged on the Saturday of the Show. Class WI 5 LIVE CHAIN MAKING, Minimum of three links in continuous chain.

Time allowed 30 minutes. Materials to be mild steel 12mm round bar 200mm long for each link, to be provided by the competitor. A striker is allowed, but is not mandatory. The duties of a striker (if employed), are restricted to tending the fire and use of the sledge-hammer. Competition to be held daily from Thursday to Saturday and judged on the Saturday of the Show.

For Classes WI 3, WI 4 and WI 5 - (a) Pre-heating is allowed but NO material to be pre-worked. (b) Five minutes brushing, sanding and polishing time after "time" is called. (c) No tools other than working tools permitted. EXHIBITORS ARE INVITED to display a photo collage of their work - preferably for wall mounting.

Royal Bath & West Champion Prize Card and Rosette. WIC 4 Reserve Champion Live Blacksmith - The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths Shield

SPECIAL PRIZES

WIS 1 For the best Wrought Ironwork exhibit in Classes WI1 & WI2 - The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths National Championship Perpetual Challenge Cup (CO7), and keepsake shields to the winner and runner-up provided at least three competitors compete. The winning entry must not have won a Company Show prize at this Show previously. The winner will also receive a Royal Bath & West Special Prize Card.

NOTE: special cash prizes from WCB. WIS 2 The winner of Class WI 3 - the Ron Bennett Memorial Perpetual Challenge Trophy

(CO25), offered by the British Artists Blacksmiths Association (Royal Bath & West Show is a member and active supporter of BABA). The winner will also receive the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths keepsake shield and a Royal Bath & West Special Prize Card.

WIS 3 For the best Wrought Ironwork exhibit from a competitor who has not previously

competed at this Show, or is under 25 years on 30th September 2016. Provided there are five or more entries and the winning item has not won any prize at this Show previously. The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths judge will assess the work of all exhibits with a view to awarding a company certificate and a Royal Bath & West Special Prize Card.

GRAND PRIX

WIS 4 The Grand Prix will be based on the aggregate points from classes WI1 to WI 5. Points will be awarded as follows: 1st 10; 2nd 6; 3rd 4; 4th 3; 5th 2; 6th 1.

For the winner of the Grand Prix - The Garton Perpetual Challenge Trophy (CO6) and a Royal Bath & West Special Prize Card.

PUBLIC AWARD WIS 5 Visitors to the Wrought Ironwork display area will be asked to vote for their favourite

piece. The result will be announced on Saturday 4 June, the winner to receive £50 and a Royal Bath & West Special Prize Card.

NATIONAL BLACKSMITHS COMPETITIONS COMMITTEE CHAMPION BLACKSMITH OF THE YEAR

Prize cards and rosettes will be awarded to the Champion, Reserve Champion and Blacksmiths in Live classes. The Royal Bath and West Show is a nominated Show at which points will be awarded towards the Champion Blacksmith of the Year as follows:- Royal Bath & West Champion 10 points Royal Bath & West Reserve Champion 4 points

The Blacksmith resident in the UK gaining the most points throughout the year at the nominated Shows will be declared "Champion Blacksmith of the Year". It is not necessary for the same piece of work to be entered at all the qualifying Shows in order to compete for the Championship. In the event of a tie, the blacksmith gaining the highest number of first prizes at the selected Shows will be declared the winner. At the end of the competitive year, the overall Champion Blacksmith of the Year will receive a challenge trophy, cash prize of £500 and a plaque from The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths. The overall runner-up will receive £250 and a plaque. The Championship will be officially presented at the awards lunch of The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths. There is an additional live forge work competition to determine The National Best Blacksmith. The winner at each show and the overall winner in the United Kingdom will be determined in the same manner as that for the Champion Blacksmith.

Wrought Iron Regulations

Either enter on-line at www.bathandwest.com by 13 May, or complete the enclosed entry form and send it, together with your fee to the Entries Office, Bath & West Shows Limited, The Showground, Shepton Mallet BA4 6QN to arrive not later than 5 May. Cheques should be made payable to Bath & West Shows Ltd. No entries will be accepted after the entry close dates and it is a condition that all exhibitor’s names and addresses will be printed in the catalogue. After the close of entries you will be sent a pack containing the following:

Pre-Show Vehicle Pass to admit you into the Showground before the Show for the delivery of static exhibits. (Classes WI 1 & WI 2).

Manila tie-on labels (one for each static entry).

Wristband/ticket to provide access to the Showground as follows: • 1 x four day wristband if 3 or more items entered in Classes WI 1 & WI 2. • 1 x four day wristband if 1 item entered in Classes WI 3, WI 4 and WI 5. • 1 x 1 day admission ticket for Striker in Class WI 5.

A Blacksmith/Farrier Car Park pass to gain access to the designated parking/ camping area.

A timetable of your class showing the running order.

Static Exhibit Removal Permit(s).

Any additional tickets which you purchased when entering. Exhibits should be delivered to the Wrought Ironwork Section on Tuesday 31 May between 2:00pm and 7:30pm. Entries not received by 7:30pm on Tuesday will NOT be considered for judging. Exhibits may also be brought to the Show for exhibition only. No exhibit may be removed until prize giving has taken place on Saturday 4 June at 5:00pm at the Forge. Exhibitors will forfeit their prize money if they are not in attendance. Exhibits can only be removed on the production of the removal permit and must be collected no later than 7:00pm on that day.

Entries: 1. Entries may be made: (a) On the printed form contained in the schedule, which should be forwarded with

the correct fee to The Entries Office, Bath and West Shows Limited, The Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, BA4 6QN not later than 5 May.

(b) Enter online at www.bathandwest.com ONLINE ENTRIES CLOSE 13 MAY. No

entries will be accepted after this date. (c) Provided competitors enter 4 entries in any of classes WI 1 – WI 4, further entries

in Classes WI1 & WI2 can be made at no charge; contact the Section Steward at time of delivery.

2. Competitors entering Class WI 5 - must include the name of the striker on the entry

form (if employed). 3. Where there is only a small entry in a class and the Judge, after consultation with the

Stewards, considers the exhibits unworthy of the highest prize offered, it shall be in their power to award a lower prize. The Judge's decision shall be final.

4. No item which has received a prize in the Wrought Ironwork Section at any previous

Royal Bath and West Show will be eligible to compete at this or any future Show, but may be exhibited free of charge.

Judging: 5. Judging will take place at 9:00am on Wednesday 1 June except Classes WI 3, WI 4 &

WI 5 which will be judged on the afternoon of Saturday 4 June. Prizes: 6. All prize money may be collected in cash from an Ice Event booth sited in The Foyer

of The Showering Pavilion, or on Avenue A on presentation of the prize money voucher between 8:30am and 6:30pm. Stewards will issue winning exhibitors a prize money voucher which can be redeemed on the day. Please see conditions on the reverse of the prize money voucher.

7. Exhibitors wishing to have trophies engraved should do so at their own cost but

any engraving must be similar in size, style and layout to previous engravings to ensure consistency. The Show will seek reimbursement for the cost of repairing any damage caused to trophies through mishandling or engraving.

Delivery of Exhibits: 8. All exhibits must be delivered to the Wrought Ironwork Section on the Showground,

between the hours of 2:00pm and 7:30pm on Tuesday 31 May or by prior arrangement. Entries not received by 7:30pm on Tuesday 31 May will NOT be considered for judging.

9. Whilst every care will be taken of the exhibits during the time they are in the

Showground, the Show cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage, from whatever cause arising, the exhibits being entered at the sole risk of the competitors.

Competitors in Classes: 10. Any item displayed which requires electricity must be earthed correctly. 11. For Classes WI 3, WI 4 and WI 5 - pre-heating is allowed but NO material to be pre-

worked.

Objections: 12. Any exhibitor wishing to lodge an objection having reference to an entry exhibited at the

Show must make the same in writing to the Show Office, and deposit the sum of £50. If on investigation the objection is not sustained to the satisfaction of the Stewards, the sum thus deposited shall at the discretion of the Show, be forfeited to the funds of the Show. All objections must be delivered at the Show Office in the Showground on the day on which the award is made, and no objection will be SUBSEQUENTLY, received, unless a satisfactory reason be assigned for the delay. The Stewards will consider such objections at the Show Office, at which time and place any person making the objection must attend or be represented by an authorised agent. The decision of the Stewards shall be final.

13. The Show reserves to itself the sole and absolute right to interpret these or any other

prescribed conditions and regulations, or Prize Sheets, and to settle arbitrarily and determine all matters, questions or differences in regard thereto, or otherwise arising out of or connected with or incident to the Show. Also to refuse and to cancel any entries, disqualify exhibitors, prohibit exhibition of entries, vary or cancel awards of prizes or reserve numbers, and relax conditions, as the Show may deem expedient.

14. In this clause the term Exhibitor shall include persons taking part in any competition of

display arranged by the Show and the owner of any animal, plant machinery or other thing involved in any such competition or display or otherwise exhibited on the Showground. Save for death or personal injury caused by negligence of the Show, its servants or agent, the Show will not be responsible for death, injury, disease, damage or loss caused to any exhibitor or to his or her servant or agent or to any animal, article, plant, machinery or thing of whatever nature brought onto the Showground by the said exhibitor from whatever cause death, injury, disease, damage or loss arises. (See also Reg 7).

15. The Show will not be responsible in any way for any article, plant machinery or object of

any kind exhibited on the Showground. The exhibitor shall assume full responsibility therefore, including liability for all claims arising out of the exhibition, handling or housing of such exhibits and the conduct of the stand generally. The exhibitor shall indemnify the Show against all claims, damages or expenses whatsoever in any way arising out of the presence of the exhibitor or his exhibits on the Showground. Acceptance of the foregoing provisions shall be a condition of entry.

Health & Safety: 16. Competitors attention is drawn to Health & Safety regulations and MUST provide and

use their own Personal Protective Equipment. 17. Exhibitors are reminded that they must conform to the requirements of the Health and

Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant Health and Safety legislation. Exhibitors must also comply to The Equalities Act 2010 (formerly The Disability and Discrimination Act); the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005; the Health Act 2006 incorporating the Smoke Free Legislation. Environmental Health Officers, Trading Standard Officers and Fire Officers will be in attendance at the Show and have the authority to take appropriate enforcement action.

18. Smoking is prohibited in all buildings.
