COURSE DESCRIPTIONThe 12th Annual International External Fixation Symposium (IEFS) presented by UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine provides a comprehensive overview of surgery for the diabetic foot and ankle. Led by national and international experts, evidence-based lectures with dynamic panel discussions are augmented by detailed hands-on surgical training in cadaveric workshops. The IEFS gives participants a unique interactive learning experience within the setting of the beautiful San Antonio Hill Country.

TARGET AUDIENCEThis symposium is designed to meet the unique educational needs of podiatric surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, vascular surgeons, plastic surgeons, general surgeons, fellows, residents, students and all other healthcare professionals interested in or involved in the surgical management of diabetic lower extremity manifestations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES • Identify indications and outcomes for peripheral endovascular

procedures and open bypass for diabetic limb salvage. • Describe and interpret advanced medical imaging for diabetic

foot and ankle pathology. • Identify the latest options for medical and surgical treatment of

diabetic foot infections. • Identify proper diagnosis and surgical treatment for complex

diabetic foot and ankle trauma. • Describe the history and latest advancements in foot and ankle

surgery for diabetic Charcot neuroarthropathy. • Interpret options available for plastic surgical reconstruction of

diabetic lower extremity defects and apply various techniques in hands-on cadaveric workshops.

• Effectively apply techniques of external fixation for diabetic lower extremity trauma and Charcot foot and ankle reconstruction in hands-on cadaveric workshops.

COURSE REGISTRATION INFORMATIONThe symposium registration fee includes tuition, access to course materials, entrance to exhibit hall, continental breakfast, lunch, refreshment breaks, and a Friday evening reception. Participation in the cadaver labs requires an additional fee and there is limited space available, therefore early registration is encouraged. To enroll, please register online at IEFS-UT.org. If you must cancel, your tuition will be refunded, less a $50 administrative fee, provided notice is received by November 19, 2017. The IEFS Committee reserves the right to limit enrollment or cancel any course no less than a week prior to the program. Should circumstances make this necessary, tuition will be refunded in full.
