Welcome to the First Family

First Edition - page 2

August is another month crammed with First Baptist events. We have the weekend marriage event, school spirit night, blessing of the backpacks, Legacy Builders and Promotion Sunday. Our church is like the “energizer bunny”---it just keeps going and going. Each month has its own special push and August is certainly no exception. With school starting, most vacations have ended. It has been a good summer; now it is time for my favorite season -- FALL! Not only does Fall mean football, but it means settling back into a routine. When you miss church, you miss so much. I wish all of you could have been at our last Wednesday night prayer service. All ages were represented as we stretched our hearts to pray for Jeff Ingram. Keep praying. As I write this letter, we still don’t have results from his tests. Continue to pray for Jeff and Jeannie and the right strategy for his healing. Also, you missed a blessing if you missed Laureen Davis’ testimony. What a witness to the Lord and to prayer! Sunday night’s service led by the college ministry and Ryan Weed was great. Pray for our students as they return to their campuses and take their Christian witness with them. My prayer for all of us is that we face life on our knees, praying fervently -- “but prayer was made without ceasing...” (Acts 12:5 KJV) May our church be a house of prayer! Our church, our nation, our young people, our families -- all need constant prayer. My sermons will continue from the book of Acts. Christians are to be filled as we meet and then take the gospel out there to a lost and dying world. On Sunday night, we study Ephesians and what Paul says to our lives about Christian character. Wednesday Bible Study looks at the life of Jesus in his last week from the gospel of Matthew. All of this is by a design to get God’s Word into the very soul of your existence. All else has a termination point, but God’s Word lasts forever (I Peter 24:25) Have a good two weeks. May God bless each of you.Your Pastor,JerryIsaiah 40:8

Preschool Security and UpgradesWe are nearing completion on a number of upgrades to our preschool and children’s departments. Among these are painting and flooring upgrades, as well as secure code entry safety doors along with a panic button lockdown in the event of an emergency. We will soon be calling a parent meeting to better acquaint you with assigned family security codes for preschool door entry, as well as new preschool hall guidelines designed to keep our preschoolers safe while on campus during all ministry activities. These amazing upgrades are further proof of our church’s commitment to being the best choice for your children, the best choice for your family. It’s great to serve your kids at FBC Fairhope. Any questions? See Kevin or Jennifer.

MOVING ON UP Day in Sunday SchoolSunday, August 17On this Sunday all Preschoolers – Youth will move up to their new class. In addition, it is the time of year when Adults are encouraged to move up as well (if it is that time) or to check out a new class if you need a fresh start.

This Summer, Children’s Music was filling the air here at WAM

(Preschool Music Camp) and MIX Music Camp at Shocco Springs,

Alabama. Check out some of the pics taken from these events.

WHY offer Preschool/Children’s Music?

Children who experience music in preschool are more likely

to attend college. Music introduced in the first 6 years of life

heightens cognitive and problem solving skills. Most Scripture is

learned when we are children. Private music lessons are costly.

Church music lessons are free & provide great outreach. Have

you a heart for kids and looking for a place to serve this fall? Try one

of our Children’s Music classes on Wednesday nights

5:30 – 6:30 pm. Music can “SHAKE” UR World!

Blessing of the Backpacks On Sunday, August 17, we will have our annual “Blessing of the Backpacks” during both morning worship services 8:30am and 11:00am. This is a very special time for our church body to come together for the purpose of praying over the children and educators of our church as they prepare to be the light of Jesus in classrooms around our city this upcoming school year. On this day your child will receive a scripture tag including a prayer and God’s Word to place on their backpack as a visual testimony to their faith. Dr. Henry will also lead us in a special time of prayer for the kids this day. Please do not miss this very special service. All backpacks must be placed on stage 15 minutes prior to each morning worship service. Kids will be called up to stand on stage after service begins. See you at Blessing of the Backpacks!
