1 Specifying Settings for Connection Numbering

Settings for connection numbering are saved in schemes. This way you can access

previously specified settings at any time and even change them, if necessary.

Precondition:

You have opened a project.

Project data > Connections > Numbering > Settings

1. In the Settings: Connection numbering dialog, select a user-defined

scheme from the drop-down list, or create a new scheme using (New).

2. In the Filtertab select the check box for the trade and connection type youwant to number.

3. In the Placementtab select where and how often you want to place theconnection definition points on the connections.

4. In the Designationtab, define the format groups that are to be formattedtogether.

5. In the Displaytab specify formatting for connection designations generated onthe connection definition point. Among these formatting options are, forexample, horizontal and vertical increments of the connection designation fromthe connection line, as well as text color, size, etc.

6. Click [OK].

The scheme is now set up and will be used when you are numberingconnections.

2 Creating Format Groups

2. Move the Designationtab to the foreground and in the toolbar above the

Format groupsfield, click (New).

3. In the Connection numbering: Formatsdialog, in the Connection groupfield, select one of the predefined connection groups or the "Browse..." entry.

4. If you selected "Browse..." and opened the Device tag listdialog, select oneof the DT's in the project and click [OK].

5. In the Extentfield specify the range of connections that are to receive thesame format for their connection designations. Select an entry from the drop-down list.

Note:

If you have selected the "Net" entry, you can use the net extension to expandthe area of influence for numbering.

7. In the Available format elementsfield select a format element and move itover to the right using the arrow button into the list of selected format

elements.

Different subsequent dialogs will appear, depending on the formattingelement. Depending on the format element selected, this can be one of thefollowing dialogs: Format: Properties, Format: Counter, Format: Page / column/ rowor Format: Separator.

8. Define the formatting in the subsequent dialog.

In the Previewfield, a preview of the designation format is displayed. Theindividual formatting elements are displayed in the connection designations inthe same sequence as they currently exist in the list.

9. If desired, you can change the sequence of the formatting elements using thearrow buttons.

10. Click [OK].

The values entered will be saved in the selected scheme.

3 Editing Format Groups

Precondition:



1. In the Settings: Connection numbering dialog, select the Designationtab.

2. In the Format groups field select a format group and click (Edit).

3. In the Connection numbering: Formatsdialog in the Extentfield, change ifnecessary, the range of connections that are to receive the same format fortheir connection designations. Select an entry from the drop-down list.

5. In the Selected format elements field select an entry and click (Edit) tochange the formatting. Or, in the Available format elementsfield select a

format element and move it over to the right using the arrow button into the listof selected format elements in order to define an additional format element.

6. In the subsequent dialog (Format: Properties, Format: Counter, Format:Page / column / rowor Format: Separator) define the desired formatting.

4 Defining Net Extensions

In the Net extensiondialog you can add to a net definition. This setting affects the

designation if the range is selected as "Net". Typically a net ends at item terminalsand connection points. Use the net extension function to expand the net withterminals and plugs.

2. Select the Designationtab and click [Net extension].

3. In the Net extensiondialog use the arrow button to move the desiredfunctions from the Selectionlist into the Net extended with followingobjectslist.

The net will then no longer end at the selected functions, but rather it will be

extended by them.

The net extension applies to all format groups contained in the "Net" scope.

4. Click [OK].

The setting will be saved in the selected scheme.

5 Placing Connection Definition Points

Precondition:

You have selected connections in the graphical editor, or you have selected one ormore pages or a project in the Pages - navigator dialog.

Project data > Connections > Numbering > Place

Once you have called up the menu item, the connections are first automaticallynewly generated.

1. In the Settingsfield of the Place connection definition pointsdialog selecta scheme from the drop-down list that will specify the settings for connection

numbering. Click [...]to open the Settings: Connection numberingdialog.Define the numbering settings here and store them in a scheme.

2. Activate the check box Apply to entire projectin order to extend theconnection numbering for the entire project. If you have called up the dialog fora selected project from the Pages - navigator dialog, thecheck box is already selected and grayed out.

3. Click [OK].

The connection definition points are placed on the schematic pages. Theyreceive "????" as a designation if the associated connection still has nodesignation.

6 Designating Connections

Via the Designate connectionsdialog you can designate those connection definition

points that are able to possess a connection designation.

Connection designations are assigned using connection definition points. Aconnection can only be designated if all of its connection definition points areselected. If a page is open in the graphical editor you can individually select thedefinition points. Otherwise they are selected via the pages or the project. If theconnection has definition points that are not selected, it cannot be designated.

Precondition:

You have selected connections in the graphical editor, or you have selected one or

more pages or a project in the Pages - navigator dialog.

Project data > Connections > Numbering > Enter designation

1. In the Settingsfield of the Designate connectionsdialog select a schemefrom the drop-down list that will specify the settings for connection numbering.Click [...]to open the Settings: Connection numberingdialog. Define thenumbering settings here and store them in a scheme.

2. In the table specify the start value and the increment for numbering eachdisplayed connection group.

3. In the Overwritegroup box specify the connection definition points for whichthe designation should be overwritten.

4. Select the Mark as "manually set"check box to assign the "Manually set"property to all connection definition points for which a connection designationis set during this numbering process.

5. Activate the check box Apply to entire projectin order to extend theconnection numbering for the entire project. If you have called up the dialog for

a selected project from the Pages - navigator dialog, thecheck box is already selected and grayed out.

6. Select the Preview of resultcheck box so that before the new connectiondesignations are adopted, the Designate connections: Preview of resultdialog is displayed.

7. Click [OK].

The connection designations are displayed on the connections that are

selected for the numbering, as long as the connection definition points havebeen placed there.

6.1 Change numbering results

In the Designate connections: Preview of resultdialog, the connections whosedesignations are to be changed are listed. You can confirm the acceptance of the

new connection designations, abort, or manually modify the new designations.

Project data > Connections > Numbering > Enter designation

1. In the Designate connectionsdialog specify the settings for connectiondesignations and select the Preview of resultcheck box.

2. Click [OK].

3. In the Designate connections: Preview of resultdialog, browse through thetable and, if necessary, change the connection designation in the Newconnection designationfield.

4. Select Popup menu > Keep old connection designationsif you would liketo enter the old connection designation in the New connection designationfield for the selected connection.

5. Click [OK].

The connection designations are displayed on the connections that are

selected for the numbering, as long as the connection definition points havebeen placed there.

7 Realigning and Formatting ConnectionDesignations

Use the Realign and reformatcommand to reset the original positions of anyconnection definition points that were already set but were later moved / reformatted.In doing so, the original formatting specified in the settings will be restored for theselected connection definition points.

1. In the Settingsfield of the Align and Format Connection Designationsdialog select a scheme from the drop-down list that will specify the settings forconnection numbering. Click [...]to open the Settings: Connectionnumberingdialog. Define the numbering settings here and store them in ascheme.

2. In the Connection definition pointsgroup box specify which connectiondefinition points should be realigned and formatted.

3. Select the Retain "manually set" numberingscheck box to retain thealignment and formatting for connection definition points with the "Manuallyset" setting.

4. Activate the check box Apply to entire projectin order to extend theconnection numbering for the entire project. If you have called up the dialog for

a selected project from the Pages - navigator dialog, thecheck box is already selected and grayed out.

5. Click [OK].

Connection definition points will be realigned and formatted.

8 Deleting Connection Designations

Precondition:

You have selected a connection in the graphical editor, or in the Connections -navigator dialog. Or you have selected one or more pages or aproject in the Pages - navigator dialog.

Project data > Connections > Numbering > Delete


1. Select a scheme from the drop-down list in the Settingsfield of the Delete

connection designationsdialog.

The filter settings defined in this scheme are taken into account whendeleting the connection designations.

2. If you wish to change the filter settings, click [...]next to the Settingsfield.

3. Define the desired filter settings using the Settings: Connection numberingdialog. Select the appropriate check boxes for the desired connection typesand click [OK].

4. In the Delete connection designationsdialog use the radio buttons tospecify whether you only want to delete the connection designations or alsothe empty connection definition points.

5. Select the Retain "manually set"check box to retain the alignment andformatting for connection definition points with the "Manually set" setting, tonot delete them, and to retain their designation.

6. Select the check box Apply to entire projectin order to extend the deletion tothe entire project.

7. Click [OK].

According to the settings, the connection designations and if selected the empty connection definition points will be deleted from the project.
