The Portuguese informed me that their home city, Guimarães, the first capitol of Por-
tugal, was founded in 868 and is considered the birthplace of the Portuguese nation-
ality. They were disappointed in St. Louis as they were expecting Tom Sawyer but
said the Kansas leg of Route 66 was beautiful and has been their favorite part of the
trip. Upon leaving, they promised to email the Soda Fountain when they got back
home and to share their experiences with all of our students.
The Canadians shared the fact that college is much cheaper in Canada. A small four
-year college would cost approximately $10.000 a year. That includes dorm, meals,
books, and tuition.

NEW YORK, - An ex-con
allegedly tried to rob
two people in New
York, police said, but
didn't notice his in-
tended victims were
police officers -- in uni-
form.
Police said 33-year-old
Jermaine Washington
allegedly was so intent
on robbing someone
Saturday that he pulled
a fake handgun on the
two armed police offi-
cers as they walked
through Riverside Park,
The New York Daily
News said.
"It was stupid criminal
tricks," a police source
said. "The guy didn't
even look to see who
was coming."
After Washington alleg-
edly pulled his fake
gun, the two officers
drew their real weap-
ons and Washington
surrendered after a
short but tense stand-
off.

Riding with a passenger makes balance and control of your bike a great challenge. Make sure your passenger is wearing all of the proper riding gear, knows where and how to sit, where to put their feet and hands and how to lean through turns. Tell them to look over your shoulder in the direction of the turn. Re-member that the passenger is "your" responsibility and should be properly educated, prepared and ready to ride.
When you brake, use both brakes together. Generally speaking, when conditions are good, the front brake accounts for as much as 2/3 of the bike's stopping power. How much brake pressure to use depends on your abilities, your bike's capabilities, and the en-vironment.
Slow down before going into a curve. Look through the curve and gently accelerate as you enter and drive through the curve. This gentle acceleration creates stability but cannot be accomplished without proper braking prior to entering the curve.

Remove unnecessary weight.
If you add weight to your vehicle
for extra traction in the winter
months, remember to remove it
when the snow melts. Unneces-
sary weight can result in wasted
fuel and needless CO2 emis-
sions.
Take off the roof rack.
Loaded or empty roof rack in-
creases fuel consumption through
aerodynamic drag. A removable
roof rack, installed only when
needed, is your best option.

Men's Health
Include some weight training in your
workout routine
Aerobic workouts are great for improved car-
diovascular conditioning. Still, you can get bet-
ter health values and impacts with weight
training, as far as attacking your flab factor" is
concerned. Recent researches revealed that
just once a week resistance exercise has strong
possibility of improving the muscle strengths
of an average male. So no matter how busy you
are, doing that little for a better health should-
n't be much of a problem actually!

Get An Anti-Virus
Program
We are getting about one call per week from people who have a virus on their system. These are mainly from older adults (our regu-lar customers). We had 6 calls in one week a couple weeks ago. I get about one virus per month in my e-mail (usually from one of our customers computers).
If you are using the Internet (for browsing or e-mail), get an anti-virus program on your computer, and keep it up to date. We rec-ommend Norton AntiVirus, because it is “easy” to up-date. It actually is “easy” for beginners to update (and I never say “easy” and
“beginners” in the same sentence with computer stuff). It automatically checks for updates, and asks you if you would like them. You just click on Next, Next, and Finish, and it installs the update (without you having to know anything about file management). I like it per-sonally because it doesn’t take much of my time.
What ever anti-virus pro-gram you use, make sure you keep it up to date. An anti-virus program that has not been updated within the last 30 days, is consid-ered completely useless!

“Continued from front page”
I am proud of my country but realize the sometimes an outsider can see faults
that we don’t see. I want to learn from tourists who have a different perspective
than I have therefore I ask questions such as, “What are the main differences you
see in our two countries?’ Or “What do you like or dislike about the United
States?”
Invariably I get the same answers. They indicate that people in our country are
friendlier than they are in theirs, that we are more patriotic, we fly more flags, and
our food servings are bigger. They find no fault with our country. Although they
are proud of their homeland, they are impressed with everything they see in the
United States.
As a whole, they enjoy the small towns but are not really impressed with the big
cities. They enjoy the stories about Bonnie and Clyde but never heard of Mickey
Mantle. Coke is their favorite soft drink and they are not used to so many fried
foods. The Norwegians who came two weeks ago were hungry for boiled pota-
toes.

Spiritual Food For Thought
Rescued
Read: Ephesians 2:1-10
God, who is rich in mercy, . . . made us alive together with Christ. —Ephesians 2:4-5
Lauren nervously yet excitedly hopped into a one-person kayak for a white-water rafting experience. After strapping herself in, she headed down the river with a group of kayakers and guides.
Lauren became even more nervous when she laid eyes on the falls ahead. Suddenly, as the kayak tossed and turned in the white water, it flipped over. She had been in-structed on how to get out quickly if this were to happen. But she became disoriented as she hung upside-down in the water and couldn’t find the release bar to get out. She knew she couldn’t hold her breath much longer and thought she would soon be in the Lord’s presence. Then help came just in time and she was saved. Lauren was very grateful for her rescue from physical death.
An even greater rescue has been provided for us—rescue from spiritual death has come in the Person of Jesus Christ. While we were drowning in sin, God sent His Son Jesus to bring life through His own death and resurrection (Rom. 5:8; Eph. 2:5). He did so because He is “rich in mercy” and because of “His great love” (Eph. 2:4).
Out of gratefulness, we can help others by telling them of the Rescuer they so des-perately need.
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save. —Crosby
Those who’ve been rescued should be ready and willing to help in the
rescue of others.

One day a man went to an auction. While there, he bid on a parrot. He really wanted this bird, so he got caught up in the bidding. He kept on bid-ding, but kept getting outbid, so he bid higher and higher and higher. Finally, after he bid way more than he in-tended, he won the bid - the parrot was his at last!
As he was paying for the par-rot, he said to the auctioneer, "I sure hope this parrot can talk. I would hate to have paid this much for it, only to find out that he can't talk!"
"Don't worry," said the auc-tioneer, "He can talk. Who do you think kept bidding against you?"
